"Even a man who is pure of heart and says his prayers by night may become a wolf when the wolfbane blooms and the autumn moon is bright."

The Lycanthrope. Werewolves, a dangerous and infectious breed! These are raging monsters, they are born of beasts and the savagery of this despicable fact cannot be bred away. When the full moon crests in the sky, whomever is unlucky enough to fall under the werewolf curse turns into a wolf. [...]Let's just say if it were a choice, it wouldn't be called a curse. Werewolves will attack humans, but instinct and centuries of rivalry have hardwired them to hunt their prey of choice -- Vampires.

Oracle, on Werewolves
in The Wolf Who Cried Girl

What about a human by day, a freak animal killing machine in by moonlight don't you understand? I mean, werewolves are badass. I haven't seen one in almost 20 years. You know what the best part about it is? I already know how to bring these suckers down. One of these bad boys right to the heart.
Mia, about Werewolves
in The Wolf Who Cried Girl

Werewolves (or also known as Lycanthropes, Lycans, Loup Garou, The Children of the Moon, The Servants of the Moon, or Beasts and sometimes even just "Wolves") are a race of shape-shifting supernatural creatures that have been encountered by hunters and are one of the primary creatures of the series.

Tumblr nxoszcviVh1tx3x58o1 500

They are able to, through means of dark magic or a curse (usually during a full moon), unwillingly transform/morph/change themselves into fearsome, horrifying, and extremely hostile wolf creatures during full moons, shifting between human and wolf form. It has been stated that werewolves and skinwalkers are cousins. There is no known cure for lycanthropy. Werewolves are extremely savage and powerful. According to legend, it cannot abide by the scent of wolfsbane (aconite), and can only be killed by piercing the heart with a silver bullet or a blade, cutting off the head, and burning the body to ashes.

One may become a Werewolf by being bitten, a pact with the Devil, a curse, drinking water from a wolf’s paw print, and other ways. Even in their human form, all werewolves do possess superhuman physical prowess. Werewolves are the most dangerous enemies of vampires because a bite from a werewolf can kill a vampire. Werewolves are designed to kill vampires on sight in their wolf form. Though they still hunt human prey when there are no vampires to kill. Werewolves appear to be a natural occurrence. The werewolf gene is passed from parent to child. At least one parent must have the werewolf gene, triggered or untriggered. There are no known cases of a person becoming a werewolf from a bite.

Werewolves creatures that rise with the moon, one of the few more dominant species discovered. This will go into deep detail of the werewolves that will be featured in this. If you have something you would like to add such as a mating rule, or some acceptance ritual into a pack let me know I’ll be glad to discuss such a thing. This will be edited over time as I learn more things or feel the need to change something to better suit us all.

Many people speculate how werewolves came to be, how anything came to be. Long ago, regular wolves plagued villages ravishing the live stock, of animals. Over time it just wasn’t enough being a wolf they have a lust for hunger, power they want it all. They started hunting humans and that’s when people got suspicious of such behavior. After many years of investigation hunters began to rise, killing any wolf spotted on sight with no mercy. One day a man killed a pregnant wolf, she was innocent having only ever killed animals followed the great balance of life. Some wolves had been good others not so much… Her pups would never see the day, the man who killed this wolf gutted her taking her pups from the womb and sacks. He brought them into the town, flashed them off like gold coins, her head was stuck on a spear in the center of the town and this was the start of the curse.

To this day it is still unknown how such power was brought into this world but that female wolf was still alive living for her pups she gave the rest of her life essence to them. They sat in jars in this mans house, until the full moon one week later began to rise. With the rise of the moon came the rise of the curse. The pups grew, the process having been sped up. They should have been dead, should have never grown to a full grown wolf but they did. They sought vengeance and blood. That night the man that murdered their mother was dealt with his limbs along the floor, his blood stained the walls. Instead of kill the villagers they bite them just once. Most of them died though some did survive and they them selves become abominations they hated.

It was set the curse started and the act of vengeance released into the world. The wolf pups now full grown faded, after taking the town. Bullets didn’t stop them, slicing them in half didn’t stop them they wouldn’t die until it was settled. When the last human was bitten each one turned into a dark mist fading into the snow.

Werewolves are human with the ability to shape shift into a wolf or an anthropomorphic wolf-like creature. Lycanthropy or even Werewolf they have many names each meaning something different in the stories passed down time after time again.

All werewolves, even newly changed wolves have powers. They have a mind to mind communication. This only works if they are bonded or in a pack together. This means they can speak to one another via the mind, even know if one is in danger. They can also track them with their nose or their mind if one is in grave danger. They posses, great Speed, Hearing, Strength, Sight and Smell in human form though in wolf form it grows even more.

Most werewolves are protective of their family, messing with one means you mess with all. With this it means they are very territorial, and trespassing could end up in a fight.

History[]

Werewolves have been around since what he calls the "beginning," which could be referring to the beginning of the werewolf race. Not much is known about the history of werewolves, except that they existed just as long as vampires, who were known to be created 10,000 years ago.

And like with the vampires, the origin of the werewolf race remained a mystery, but what is known is a Cro-Magnon (some 10,000 years ago BC) was hunting a large black wolf that killed his parents. The hunter, back then known only as No-Man, still had his siblings. And they went with him to find the wolf. And after they found that wolf, it turns out the wolf had a family of its own. So the wolfs and No-Man's family fought one another as No-Man and the Great Black Wolf fought in a bloody confrontation but the man eventually one and killed the wolf. But somehow, after all of the wolves were killed, the energy of the wolf transferred to the man and he became one with the wolf, and from that day, the werewolf species was born, creating what is called the Original Werewolves.

Appearance[]

In their human form, werewolves appear as normal humans. In their werewolf form, their bodies change rapidly, changing into a perfectly fitting definition of both hunters and predators. Their nails increase to sharp, long claws, fangs increase in size and eyes resemble those of a wolf rather than of a human.

The Bestiary Werewolves

After shifting, each werewolf has a distinct wolf form, which differs mainly in fur and eye color. The wolf form does not necessarily resemble the human form (same eye/hair color). Werewolves in their wolf form vary depending on what classification, and with glowing various colored eyes and a much larger and brute-like appearance.

When there is the full moon after sunset they will transform into a canine form. They can also be distinguished from regular wolves by their displays of supernatural strength, speed, and overall size. The fur color of werewolf forms differs from one to the other, even on Alpha’s (e.g., Nina's fur color is dark brown, Verruca's is white and grey, Oz is all black.) Werewolves appear the same as any other human the rest of the month, apart from the full moon.

Werewolves are in a way are humanoid carnivores, the ultimate combination of wolves and humans. They feed on prey found nearby, which, due to the increase of urban areas, are mostly humans. When they devour the flesh of victim they leave a recognizable trace on the prey: they always eat the heart, and although they do sometimes eat more of the body, but never leave the heart. The transformation only occurs after a werewolf bites a victim, the way werewolves continue the spread of lycanthropy.

werewolves have 3 forms a bipedal wolf-man form, giant wolf form, humanoid wolf form when transformed. first is the bipedal wolf-man form and in this form a werewolf have change in eye colour, a lengthening of the claws, and an elongation of their fangs. The most seen Primordial werewolf shapeshift, as well as the most practical, is a near-human shape that includes all of the above features. Further transformations of this form consists of a widow's peak and heightened brow, an alteration of body or facial hair including sideburns on their cheeks, a lengthening and sharpening of their ears, as well as the ability to run using a combination of their hands and feet.

The-Wolfman-2010

The second form is a giant wolf form and in this wolf form they have the usual appearance of a timber wolf but much much larger even more larger than normal werewolves. In wolf form they are taller than the average human and are quite similar to natural wolves, although unlike natural wolves, werewolves have glowing yellow or orange eyes, wicked fangs, and a much more feral and predatory appearance. They can also be distinguished from regular wolves by their displays of supernatural strength, blurred speed, and size which is comparable to fully grown humans. The fur color of wolf forms differs from one to the other (e.g., Tyler Lockwood's fur color is dark brown, Mason Lockwood's is white and grey, Jules' is light brown with a hint of white, and Hayley's is white and brown). Werewolves can appear the same as any other human the rest of the month, aside from their enhanced abilities of speed, strength, and healing.3rd form is a humanoid wolf like creature form and in this form A werewolf is humanoid in shape, with a single head, two elongated arms and two legs.

A werewolf, obviously, bears many similarities to the creature of it's namesake, the wolf. The head is very similar to a wolf's, with two huge glowing eyes, an extended snout, and triangular ears, thick fur covering the entire body, long legs and large paws with razor-sharp, curved claws which greatly increases its climbing and grabbing ability, while reducing the energy needed to perform these actions. Although werewolves often use their claws to slashing through things and slash their prey in half, they are quite capable of being used in gouging attacks and are often best-suited for holding onto an unfortunate victim while the larger and sharper canine teeth are used to kill.

A werewolf's bite is indeed very powerful, easily capable of breaking the thickest bones of any animal of any size comparable to cattle and below. The tooth pattern of the lycanthrope is similar to that of a wolf, with four very large canines, two on the upper jaw and two on the lower, with four incisors in between each. Behind them are the premolars which are used to tear flesh, and finally, the molars at the very back for chewing. The musculature of the head is presumably that of an enlarged dire wolf's, in that the structure and shape of the musculature is that of a wolf, but with the size and strength of an animal bred for fighting and killing.

The bone structure of the werewolf is massive and eerily proportional. These extreme changes reportedly cause intense pain during transformation as the bone structure of the original human body is literally broken, reshaped, and then fused together again to its final form. the beast's bones are heavy & solid, almost unbreakable, and the tendons connecting them have proven very difficult to sever, meaning that a werewolf's frame can survive blunt force trauma or cutting power of immense magnitude before breaking/severing. the musculature of the werewolf is lean and agile, but yet powerful. Accounts of lycanthropes flashing before their victim's eyes before they are torn to pieces carry testament to the lycanthropes powerful attacks and frightful mobility. Notable hypertrophy occurs in the transverse abdominal, obliques, and Dominus (trunk) quadriceps and hamstrings (thighs), gastrocnemius (calves), biceps, triceps, anterior and posterior deltoids (arms and shoulders), latissimus dorsi, trapezius muscle, and erector spinae (back) and pectorals (chest). These areas are massive, while other areas of musculature enjoy significant but not-so-obvious increases. The durability of the musculature is also greatly increased, as werewolf can exert themselves for extended periods of time without tiring and without injury (if the action being performed in and of itself does cause harm). If a werewolf sustains sufficient injury, it can enter a feral, berserker-like rage, abandoning any thought of fight or defense to take down that which caused it such pain.

A werewolf typically appears with white, black, brown, or grey fur of various shades. It is unknown if the colors change with age. Only one instance of a red werewolf is known, that being Deputy Heather Kerkonen, who was bitten by a fellow deputy, who'd been brought to a hospital due to a (then-unknown) werewolf attack.

The skin of the werewolf is very similar to a wolf's, being pale under the fur but extraordinarily resistant to damage; weapons made primarily for thrusting (such as spears and bayonets) with wolfs-bane, or high-caliber ammunition with wolfs-bane seem to be the only things that can reliably pierce a werewolf's hide. This is further increased if said object is made of wolfs-bane. The cause of this phenomenon with silver is not currently known.

Triggers[]

Most werewolves have a trigger that makes them transform. For example: If a werewolves is in human form and it gets to hyper, it will transform. Other triggers are: getting to angry, getting hurt, getting too much adrenaline, or to protect something or someone.

When they die or get knock out, most of them turn back into human form.

The worst way for someone to trigger their werewolf curse is if they take a life, or simply put, kill somebody. It also does not matter if the gene was activated accidentally, or it was intentional.

But if anyone triggers their werewolf curse through any of these ways, either way, once they have triggered their curse or gene, their eyes will change color and their powers will activate instantly. A Werewolf who has yet to trigger his or her curse will only exhibit increased aggression and overwhelming fits of rage during nights of the full moon.

Infection[]

Some werewolves were, in the past, once humans who were infected by the werewolf curse when they were bitten or even scratched by a transformed or transforming werewolf. Werewolves are not as common as other supernatural beings, as werewolves, once in their wolf form, will attack to kill rather to infect, unlike other similar creatures such as Vampires. A werewolf will leave a lifelong scar or bite mark after infecting a victim. This makes werewolves relatively easy to identify whilst in their human state.

Additionally, once someone becomes infected with the curse of the lycanthrope, they only turn into a werewolf on their first full moon.

Transformation[]

A werewolf will only transform into a wolf under a full moon. The first transformation is quite slow, and the person is subjected to at least five or six hours of intense, bone-breaking pain before the actual transformation. After the first transformation, the experience will get faster and does not hurt nearly as long, but still is still painful and something many werewolves come to dread.

During the transformation, the body of the person is twisted in an unnatural manner as bones reshape and shift to form a wolf’s skeleton, causing the person immense physical and psychological pain. Later, the werewolf/person grows excessive body hair and becomes feral with huge glowing eyes and fangs. Their irises turn into different, glowing and bright colors, their sclera turn black, and their teeth elongate into canines before they finally transform into their wolf shape.

Then in minutes the werewolf will become a wolf. A werewolf returns to their human form after a few hours, sometimes sooner, sometimes later. After the first transformation the werewolf will experience muscle aches. Older werewolves can control themselves to some extent on the night of the full moon, but many find it necessary to dose themselves with wolfsbane to weaken them before they lock themselves up in chains to prevent hurting anyone while they're transformed.

Alpha Werewolves, especially True Alpha Werewolves, have much more control over their actions in wolf form than typical werewolves.

Physiological Observations[]

The transformation into a werewolf can cure chronic illnesses like asthma and epilepsy.

Werewolves can not get drunk unless the alcohol is mixed with wolfs-bane. It’s normally broken down,

Ms-lycan-large

crushed and poured into the alcohol where the flower will dissolve and mix.

If a werewolf drinks enough of the wolfsbane alcohol it has it’s advantages of getting drunk, feeling that burn is nice. But also disadvantages such as, losing your healing ability, losing your werewolf strength, smell, speed - If you drink enough you would be like a normal human. Once the alcohol wears off you would return to normal speed probably like a normal drunk person sobering up.

The werewolves eyes glow in all images and video. This has been observed when dilated pupils are exposed to a bright light and as a response to emotional stimulus. Several color variations have been observed.

Tumblr mrctkyS1lt1rsk1uio2 500

Even in human form, werewolves have a higher body temperature than humans do. During a shift, a werewolves’ anatomy changes completely from human to wolf. As with their cosmetic features, werewolf anatomies are not influenced by their human form.

Mating (High important)[]

Werewolves are very similar to humans in this aspect of their life. You see Mating is taking on one lover, one true love that will be Marked. It means the pair will for ever be together until death. A bond is formed which will help them both feel each other when one is sick, hurt or in pain. It’s also one of the most treasured traditions in a werewolves life. Some go without experiencing this often believing they don’t need to be mated instead they want to be free and be able to have sex with whom every they may please. In this case Bonding, Mating and Marking is a lot like human marriage but with stricter rules and guidelines.

Lets start off with getting Marked. Marking is a some what long process considering it takes at least a week to fully work. A werewolf picks it’s mate, be it male or female. They must first get permission from the Alpha to start the process of marking and so on. It is not favored for a werewolf to mate and mark a human. Only because the process can normally get rough, often resulting in needing two werewolves.

The mark can be placed either on the neck or wrist, a bite that won’t change the human or affect them. No this bite gives them unimaginable pleasure which sometimes brings them instantly to orgasm. In return the bite is exchanged, normally a human would also have to bite a werewolf. This is the first step of the Marking process, which will lead to the second stage right after the bite. In which they strip only to rub against each other in a rut of hormones. They call it scenting one another so other wolves or creatures know to back off.

In this act at the final stages or release they rub the semen along their bodies acting as a stronger scent. This process happens three times in order to get the scent down pat. They can shower but soap is not favored for it makes the scent weaker.

Sex can not happen during this time for it must happen as a binding. Sex will happen on the last day of the seven day process of marking. This is binding the two together, somehow it’s a magical binding. This is when it happens, when they can feel each other, know what the other is thinking. This is also when if a human is involved they can help control and ease the werewolf so he/she can’t lose control.

The act of bonding is close after these stages are followed and done. What comes next is painful, bloody and can often leave both very tired. The mating process begins further to the point they must take each other, claim what is theirs. This is also where the act of mating with a human gets dangerous. With two werewolves it is easy with the healing factor involved plus both being able to withstand the pain of all the biting and claw marks. Plus that extra strength of a werewolf. While as a human and werewolf must be careful not to over due it and kill the human.

It starts off with both being in human form, nuzzling, kissing, nipping, licking, until it gets into more which is when the change also starts very slowly. A very erotic change that only happens during this time. The male must take the female, claiming her to be his. This goes with saying two males or two females can mate as well and follow the same procedure. With two females, one must be the dominant in the relationship which is the one doing the full claiming.

Now with humans it gets tricky, the biting the clawing, it’s rough, powerful and gets straight to it. Most of the times it results in the human dying, breaking like the fragile beings they are. When it does work the human gains some power. In order to be with the werewolf the wolf must accept the human, as it’s new type of master. Not as in slave but what the human would say the wolf would listen. It’s like a safe switch so when the full moon rises or the werewolf changes it wont turn on it’s bonded one.

Now they normally get very possessive over one another or if a human is involved the wolf gets possessive over it’s mate. Often prone to some anger out bursts or worry fits if they are apart too long. Similar to a dog if you are away long enough it gets sad, worried until it sees you and it’s mood changes entirely.

In the act if one of them feel the need to unbound to each other which is forbidden, it’s shunned upon. It can be broken by one of them dying. Now this way is actually natural and is just a way of life. It may take the wolf years to get over it’s relationship or it may never move on to find another mate. If another wolf moves in on a marked target it could be an act of war against the wolves. If a marked wolf gets bitten besides the one who marked it great pain will start for both of them. This will let them know someone is trying to take what is theirs.

Another way is being with another, submitted to another. It will break the bond they have, and sometimes they can’t bring them selves back from such a thing as cheating.

Cure[]

Surprisingly, there is an actual cure for Lycanthropy, but it will only work for those who have been bitten or scratched, hence infected. It is a red substance that has to be injected into the bitten werewolf. Once injected, the werewolf will be cured. And the cure will work even on the full moon, but the human has to be in werewolf form and they injected with it before the 12th and final stroke of midnight. If they are not cured by then, the cure will not work and they will live with the curse forever.

Classification of Werewolves[]

Werewolf Society[]

Werewolves are social creatures and mostly operate within packs. Werewolves form packs with their own unique hierarchical structure. Typically members of a pack are related by blood or have been bitten by other members of the pack:

Packs[]

Werewolves typically organize into packs. All packs are led by one Alpha, whether male or female, and always have at least four other members in order to be considered complete. Packs are generally bound either blood (members who are related) or by bite (members who have been bitten by the Alpha). This is not always the case, however, and Omegas can join a pack when they are not related. Some packs, on the other hand, are more like cults and are bound together by a common belief.

The werewolf race experiences its own internal bigotry, and this is often exemplified in the membership of packs. Some packs refuse to accept mutts into their midst. Additionally, the specific pack name of the individual werewolf is also the type of werewolf it is. These are the names of different werewolves listed below:

The first werewolf of van helsing by captpatriot2020-d5btfyz
Alphas are the leaders of werewolf packs. The most powerful, most dangerous, and by far the most lethal variety of the lycanthrope, Alphas are larger, more powerful, and more animal any other werewolf classification, as they are said to possess great power and knowledge. When in wolf form, they are noticeably bigger. An Alpha is stronger with a pack than without. When an Alpha kills another werewolf, it absorbs that werewolf's power. Alphas also possess a variety of special powers and abilities that other werewolves don't possess, including the ability to control their wolf forms, abilities and tendencies very well (even on a full moon when they also have more control), empathetic abilities that have progressed to limited telepathy, and even virtual immortality. Only an Alpha has the ability to change humans into werewolves. A Pure-breed, Beta, and/or even an Omega werewolf can become an Alpha via one of three ways:
  1. By defeating and/or killing another alpha, hence stealing or taking that power.
  2. By being the next strongest member of the pack should the Alpha be killed.
  3. By rising purely through strength of personality via the sheer force of will. These are called "True Alphas" and are very rare.

In other rare cases, Alphas can literately turn into actual wolves, but in a larger appearance. They also have glowing, searing bright red eyes.

  • Zetas are known as "Rulers of the Wolves", leaders of werewolves, the Alpha of Alphas. They are what one would call "the Alpha Werewolf that would lead a pack of Alphas". Being as such, they are more powerful than standard Alphas. They have silver/dark grey-red eyes.
  • True Alphas are werewolves that gain Alpha Werewolf powers and statues based on its personality, rather than how normal Alphas kill and fight to become alphas or through the theft of another wolf's abilities. A Beta, Lycan, or even an Omega can become a True Alpha through the strength of character, virtue, or the sheer force of their own willpower alone. However, True Alphas are exceptionally rare, known for being not only the rarest of Alphas but the rarest of werewolves in general, appearing at an average rate of once a century. Like normal alphas, True Alphas have pure bright, searing red glowing eyes. However, True Alphas are much more powerful than normal Alphas and even Zetas. Therefore, True Alpha can do things they cannot.

Lycanawakeningprofile1
Lycans, otherwise known as Purebreeds, are werewolves are born with Lycanthropy as opposed to being cursed. Basically, they are the ones who are werewolves because of birth. Among packs, Lycans are more respected, especially if they are the children of the packs Alpha. Not unlike the Alphas, Lycans can also control their werewolf side and are even aware of what they do in werewolf form, even under a full moon. Because they are born werewolves, they are known to be more powerful than common Betas. Lycans have bright orange eyes.

The-Wolfman-e1415809301201
Betas are the most common kind of werewolf and are the members of a pack. Because of this association, they are considered to be stronger than Omegas due to the support they have from the pack to back them up, as they are stronger in numbers. Betas are not as strong as Alphas, and typically follow the Alpha of their pack with unwavering loyalty. Betas share a mental link with their Alpha and/or with the werewolf who bit them. They possess all the listed abilities of a werewolf and do not seem to have any special abilities beyond those mentioned below. Betas have various colored eyes, but the most notable and common is gold.
  • Wolves-2
Thetas are the Alpha's second in command to the pack. When the Alpha is not around, the Theta is left in charge until the Alpha returns. They are stronger and faster than Betas of the pack. In wolf form, Thetas appear as common Betas, but they also possess dark green eyes, unlike normal Betas which possess golden eyes.
  • Deltas are a very rare werewolf species, comparatively smaller and thought of as the packs soldiers, that appear under two circumstances. Two of the Alpha's most trusted Betas of the pack will become Delta if the pack number reaches 20. Omegas that go on their own for more than a decade will also become a Delta. If a pack becomes large enough, the Deltas of the pack become as strong as a common Alpha whilst their Alpha will be much stronger. Deltas appear in their wolf form like regular betas except their eyes are bright neon green rather than gold, like Betas.

Tumblr static filename 640 v2
Gammas are the second lowest forms of werewolf, next to the Omegas. Considered the hunters and scouts of the pack, they are sent to search the area for intruders and even spy on their enemies. Gammas look exactly like normal wolves, but slightly larger. Like Omegas, Gammas have yellow eyes.

Omega Werewolf's werewolf form
Omegas are betas without a pack, literately the "Lone Wolves"; the outcasts, existing without a pack, an Alpha, or even another werewolf. Being considered the weakest of the Lycanthrope, they are weaker than Betas because they have no pack and often die swiftly. In order to survive, some Omegas will join a pack -- however, they will lack a bond with this pack and thus are often met with cruelly and mistrust by their pack mates. Omega can also be a label for the lowest member of a pack, thus, it is also an insult. Werewolves become Omegas either by choice or being forced out of a pack by the Alpha or by other circumstance. They have pale yellow eyes.

Demon Wolves are the only werewolves not created by Lycaon. A Demon Wolf is very rare and are basically a mutated werewolf (of any class) that is either possessed by a demon (only happens if a there is a full moon on Halloween) or is a deceased werewolf that has been resurrected through evil and dark magic.

Iato are a special breed of werewolves created by Lycaon with the specific purpose to hunt werewolves. Stronger that Alphas, according to legend, they can emit a howling-roar that can kill a beta instantly and knock an Delta or Alpha unconscious. Iato have black eyes with Orange Irises.

Sigma are another special werewolf breed created by Lycaon to be his new personal body guards. The most notable, being his children, Including Paul Chiles. They are stronger than Alphas or Iato, and are weaker than Theta. Sigma have purple eyes.

Hemlock Grove - 1x12 - Children of the Night vw
Vargulf are both physically and mentally unstable werewolves, in others words, they are werewolves who have gone rabid. Having pitch black eyes and no semblance of humanity left in them, Vargulf have completely given into their wolf side. Needless to say, they are nothing but feral beasts. Because of their feral and unstable behavior, many hunters consider Vargulf one of the most dangerous of the Lycanthrope, after Alphas.

Powers and Abilities[]

Werewolves are demihumans who are granted superhuman abilities by their lycanthropy. Werewolves' powers and abilities are enhanced and are at their peak during time under a full moon, but somewhat increase as they age. When angered, these abilities are temporarily enhanced; these abilities are common to all three types of werewolves. Even in human form they appear to possess all of these abilities, though not as powerful as other supernaturals. Some werewolves have shown the ability to sense illness and, in one case, the onset of an epileptic seizure. This seems to be due to a combination of their "Heightened Senses" working in concert on a subconscious level. While in human form werewolves, mostly mutts are powerless until the days before the full moon. Purebreds on the other hand have their senses and presumably their strength heighten all the time.

  • Enhanced Supernatural Strength: Werewolves have and possess supernatural-human strength that is much greater than a human's, making them incredibly physically strong, both when transformed and in human form, and as they have shown to be considerably far much stronger than any regular human, however, not to the same extent as vampires, though their strength waxes and wanes with the moon, and they are almost human for most of the month. Werewolves are a strong breed; they can and are able to easily overpower adult humans and animals to pieces and easily rag-doll them, ripping flesh and bones with amazing force, but can be fought off; their strength is notable even for monsters, as they have been observed as being able to smash stone with their bare hands. Their more wolf-like form, during a full moon, is more powerful and they are capable of lifting 5 to 10 tons of weight. Their strength also extends into the muscles of their legs, allowing them to leap, from a crouch, roughly 18 feet into the air. Even while in human form, werewolves have incredible strength, as one newly-bitten werewolf saw no challenge in lifting an adult woman high above his head using only one hand, and would accidentally rip a door off its hinges also using virtually no effort. Even untriggered wolves possess more strength than they appear in general, which would indicate some form of enhanced strength even before the activation of their curse. After activating their curse, they gain greater strength when they transform and they experience a dramatic increase in physical strength; able to bend thick iron bars in their bare hands and easily lift heavy objects with more weight that any mortal human cannot. However, werewolves are not as strong as a vampire whilst in human form and have been shown to be far weaker on several occasions, as their strength is somewhat weaker than that of a vampires. When they are in their wolf form, during the full moon, their powers amplify to a degree that excels that of the regular vampires, making them more powerful than non-original vampires, as their strength rivals that of most vampires. In wolf form, a werewolf can overpower and kill any non-original vampire with ease and tear an entire group of witches apart. They can also defeat an Alpha Elder Vampire in small groups. However, consuming vampire blood increases their strength to the point where they can prove a challenge to a 1,100 year old vampire. A werewolf in its wolf form is arguably one of the physically strongest supernatural beings in existence, as even a werewolf on its first transformation can destroy a vampire that is extremely old. However, even in wolf form, they're no match for older vampires and higher supernaturals such as Angels. All werewolves seem to have the same or at least a similar level of strength, however a possible exception to this would be the Alpha Werewolf, as Alphas are naturally stronger than their kin. Werewolves are extremely strong and they can kill there opponent with brute force. They can kill there own kind and gain additional power and become more powerful. Their strength increase the more angry they get and they lift 10 tons, crush metal, uproot tree's, shatter glass, break tables, rip human's and vampire to shred, punch concert and brick, catch fallen vending machine and overpower humans, normal werewolf/vampires, hybrids, zombies, hunters, demons, some angels, humanoid robots, bionic humans, animals and their strength can only be matched by Tribrids and hybrids. Werewolves Can lift 100 tons as a newly changed Werewolves. Strength doubles every century(200, 400,800) and lowen CAN physically harm vampires. Werewolves possess supernatural strength that makes them far stronger than immortals, members of The Five and humans. For example, Tyler accidentally ripped the door off his locker and kicked a trash can several feet with ease right after he triggered his curse. There have been several occasions to suggest that untriggered Werewolves possess more strength than any average humans, which would indicate some form of enhanced strength even before the activation of their curse. However, Werewolves in their human form are way strong then a vampire, and have even been shown to be far stronger on several occasions. But they've also shown to be strong enough to at least defend themselves, such as when Mason punched Damon across the room, or when Hayley pinned Diego up against a wall. When they are in their wolf form, their powers amplify to a degree that excels that of the Original and non-original vampires, making them more powerful than Original and non-original vampires. In wolf form, a Werewolves can overpower and kill any non-original and original vampire with ease, an example of that being when Mason, in wolf form, tackled and overpowered Caroline, a new vampire at the time, or when Tyler was turning and overpowered Damon, a vampire over 170 years old, or even when Jules, while in wolf form, tackled and bit Rose, a 560 year old vampire. They can also defeat an Original vampire and This ability has been used to break necks and spines, ripping out internal organs and break and move heavy objects. Werewolves can also shatter windows and doors with even the smallest objects, such as anything from rolled-up newspapers and things as small as quarters, as Elijah threw a handful of quarters as a window and the window exploded. Another case is when Klaus threw a newspaper at Elena's window in her old house. Elijah also has even displayed his strength as compared to a non-original vampire when he decapitated a 500+ years old vampire, Trevor with a single chop or swing of his bare hand.
  • Enhanced/Increased Superhuman Speed: In wolf form, Werewolves have stronger muscles, which allow for them to maneuver with less lagging, meaning they can and have shown to be and move much swifter and faster that humans, some vampires, and any non-supernatural creature and run at an extremely high speed, which causes them to become almost invisible to the naked eye to perceive their movements when they are sprinting or moving at full speed, but are still prone to tiring even if it does take them longer to tire out. Werewolves can move very fast; they are able to move from place to place in seconds. Purebreds are much faster than normal werewolves. They also become much faster more quickly than other werewolves. They possess this ability both in and out of transformation with an animalistic quickness. However, the power is faster at night than in the day, due to the moon's presence, and the speed increases greatly when the werewolf is transformed during the full moon. Some werewolves are shown to become nearly a blur like their vampire enemies, making their speed nearly equivalent to that of a vampire; others have not. In wolf form however, under the full moon, they can use their speed to swiftly chase down vampires, or any chosen prey, as their speed rivals that of most vampires.
  • Enhanced Superhuman Agility: Werewolves possess superhuman agility that is greater than humans, often allowing them to perform incredible jumps and sprints easily as their agility, balance, and bodily coordination are enhanced to levels that are beyond the natural physical limits of even the finest human athlete. Werewolves have stronger muscles, which allow for them to maneuver with less lagging, meaning they can move swifter and faster, but are still prone to tiring even if it does take them longer to tire out. Even in human form, they are known to be very agile with enhanced reflexes and can move, jump very high several meters in the air in a single bound, leap, climb, pounce, react, flip, and run incredibly fast, faster than humans can, without difficulty or exhaustion. They can also jump down from incredible heights with almost gravity-defying grace.
  • Superhuman Durability: Werewolves’ body is physically tougher and more resistant to injury than the body of a normal human and they can take far more trauma than Humans can without much discomfort or injury. Werewolves are highly resistant to electric shock and have a high tolerance for physical pain. They can also exert themselves without much tire. A werewolf can take more trauma being harder to injure than a vampire. They cannot be harmed by conventional weapons, as ordinary firearms and blades seem to do little more than annoy the beast. Only a silver bullet or blade can harm or kill a werewolf.
  • Enhanced Endurance: Werewolves have amazing endurance to take hits from vampires or other werewolves.
  • Increased Pheromone: In some tales the Werewolf will appear attractive to many (women/men) in a sexual or friendly way but this is still not proven.
  • Canine ally: Many times a Werewolf will have a canine ally that acts like a Beta in a pack taking commands and protecting the Alpha.
  • Wall crawling: Werewolves can adhere to sheer surfaces.
  • Larger Stomach: Werewolves can eat large quantities of food in one sitting and still be hungry.
  • Cold and heat resistance: Werewolves can survive tough environment conditions.
  • Enhanced Superhuman Stamina: Werewolves don't tire easily and are far longer fighters than humans, does making werewolves, Vampires worst Enemy. Werewolves musculature produces less fatigue toxins during physical activity than the musculature of an ordinary human, granting him superhuman levels of stamina. They can exert themselves at peak capacity for several hours before fatigue begins to impair them.
  • Cursed Saliva: Anyone who is bitten by the werewolf shall bleed to death or survive by becoming a werewolf, in some myth Werewolves saliva are poison to vampires, which can kill a vampire.
  • Enhanced Accelerated Supernatural Regenerative Healing Factor: Werewolves possess superhuman regenerative abilities, meaning if ever injured, their bodies will heal rapidly. Werewolves are relatively fast healers and can regenerate and heal from most, if not, all non-lethal damages and injuries, purebloods are even able to completely heal their original bites. Thus, when they are shot, they can withstand the pain, due to regenerating their damaged tissue. For example, limbs can regrow in a few hours in wolf form. Werewolves are capable of regenerating damaged or destroyed areas of their body with much greater speed and efficiency than an ordinary human. Injuries that result in massive tissue damage such as bullet wounds, slashes, punctures, blunt force trauma, and severe burns heal completely, without so much as a scar, in a short amount of time. Their ability to heal is at least 10 times that of a human. Like vampires, werewolves can heal from the most grievous of injuries, even in human form, albeit rather slowly in comparison. Unlike vampires, when a werewolf’s neck is broken, they stay dead. But while they heal slower, they are harder to injury. During their transformations, a werewolf's ability to heal is enhanced. This healing factor allows them to survive their transformations, and is likely the reason why they do not suffer traumatic injuries while transforming. For example, despite the massive changes to their skeletal structure, their skin does not rip open as it happens. Consequently, it is extremely difficult to slow down a transformed werewolf with anything less than silver. Werewolves have shown to heal wounds like scratches and other wounds. Like silver bullets will heal the next day proven by Josh.
  • Immune to Witch Spells and Curses: Werewolves are invulnerable to, thus, they are more immune to Spells and Curses.
  • Clairvoyance: Being part of the supernatural 'family', they can see and hear ghosts the same way vampires and other ghosts can. It should be noted that the boost in strength and smell on the day of the full moon, and the ability to perceive ghosts only take effect after a werewolf's first transformation.
  • Invulnerability: Werewolves can't be killed by conventional means and weapons. Silver however, can kill them.
  • Vampire-Toxic Blood: Their blood is toxic to vampires, which will cause severe bleeding and seizures when ingested, but it is not fatal in small doses. It does, however, remain in the vampire's system, for an unknown amount of time, and makes it impossible for them to create new vampires without their potential progeny developing horrible mutations.
  • Disease Immunity: Werewolves possess an innate wellness and immunity to all diseases.
  • Enhanced Heightened Super Wolf Senses: Werewolves gain a canus lupis like appearance, and so do their internal organs. Thus, Werewolves have the extremely keen, heightened, superhumanly, animal acute senses of smell, sight, taste, and hearing inherent in all canines similar to those of an actual wolf. Because they are supernatural and have powers that excel their wolf counterparts, they can hear, see, and smell better than that of regular canines. Even in human form, a Werewolf possesses enhanced wolf-like senses and instincts. They're able to sense and smell things normal humans can't. This trait is shared by their shifter counterparts.
    • Sight: All werewolves are able to see far better than humans in darkness, similar to actual wolves, and they can also see part of the infrared spectrum and thus detect the heat signatures of objects or people in total darkness. Werewolves also have night vision since hunting at night very well.
    • Smell: Additionally, they have a well-developed sense of smell, which also intensifies in the days before and a few hours after the full moon. Their smell is equally enhanced to their hearing. They can smell other living creatures within 100 feet (when upwind) and follow a scent over nearly any terrain. With this, experienced werewolves such as Jules could sniff out vampires—something vampires themselves are incapable of—and Tyler sensed vervain placed in coffee, which would otherwise be impossible since the flavor is usually hidden by the coffee.
    • Hearing: A Werewolf's hearing and smell will be equivalent to a wolf's, making them excellent trackers when it comes to scents, and their hearing improves allowing them to hear sounds from miles away. They can hear the sound of a heartbeat in a cave at a distance of 30 feet.

This trait is shared by their shifter counterparts. Their senses can be even further enhanced with the use of V. Alphas also have the ability to hide their scent from other werewolves.

  • Glamour Resistance: When werewolves are Glamoured by vampires, it only effects them for 24 hours or so, then wears off. Although this may be attributed to Sookie's "un-glamouring" of Alcide, rather than an actual werewolf trait.
  • Infectious Werewolf Bite Venom: Through a bite, a werewolf can turn another person into a werewolf while in beast form. Their fangs and claws produce venom which can turn humans into werewolves by biting or scratching them. A Werewolf's bite and poison, which involves injecting a toxic venom into the wound, is extremely lethal and fatal to normal Vampires but not to an Original. While an Alpha Elder and Dracula cannot die from the bites, they are not wholly immune to the effects of the bite, as they still will experience the sickness and hallucination that accompanies it until their body heals. For Non-Original vampires, the bite wound will begin to appear infected and will hurt when touched. It will cause them to hallucinate, grow severely weak and go rabid until it kills them. The infection will spread throughout the body, producing unbearable pain and the vampire bitten will have uncontrollable hunger, and will eventually develop delusions, hallucinations of moments from their past, rabid rage, and dementia before finally dying. A bite from a werewolf as the venom in the saliva will neutralize the vampire venom in their blood causing them to die and deteriorate.
  • Curse Bite: Should another person survive a bite from a werewolf, they too will be cursed with the werewolf and transform during the full moon. The bite of a Werewolf is capable of cursing surviving victims with the fate of becoming a werewolf. The bite will cause a human to also gain the curse and slowly transform them every night until they are stuck with the curse forever on the final stroke of midnight.
  • Turn: If a human being survives being cut or bitten by one of the Werewolves, that person will then become part of the pack and transform during the full moon.
  • Anger: When a Werewolf is furious or enraged, their anger increase all their power and abilities for a short period of time, which as well as, allows them to have an advantage over a Non-Original vampire.
  • Full Moon: Werewolves powers and abilities are enhanced and are at their peak during a full moon.
  • Wolf Form/Shape-Shifting: During the full moon, Werewolves can and will unwillingly transform/shape-shift from their human form and into their wolf or wolf-like creature forms, sometimes to a half-human, half-wolf beast form, only under a full moon, they can also change during a solar eclipse albeit partially. It is implied that werewolves are able to transform into "real" wolves as well. However, if a female werewolf is pregnant, they will not turn for nine months as the transformation would kill the baby. There are ways to induce this trait outside of the Moon's influence, though. Such ways would be to become a Hybrid, and through the possession of a Moonlight Ring. These two are so far the only known methods of voluntarily controlling a Werewolf's transformed state. However, some werewolves change not only under a full moon, but under half-moons. Pureblood werewolves can shape shift at will and transform anytime they want, however, they somewhat lose control whenever they feed on human hearts.
  • Jumping Skills: Werewolves shown to jump well to go in the air to attack their enemy's.
  • Hunting Style Skills: Werewolves hunt like actual wolves does to take down prey. They can hunt very well alone or in pack. In pack shows that one will distract the prey and the other ones will ambush. Werewolves can hunt any humans, animals, or even vampires.
  • Sentience: In wolf form some werewolves are aware of whom they are and some of the people are around them. Some can remember their entire experience in wolf form but this power is rare among mutts. For pure breeds have shown to remember well.
  • Intelligence: Werewolves show to be as smart as humans.
  • Fighting Style Skills: Werewolves shown to attack by grabbing to shred and biting the enemy. But in packs werewolves are more powerful and fiercer. In werewolves form shows to fight just like wolves. In human forms they shown to fight well like karate.
  • Lycanthrope Enhancement: Werewolves can show the color of their eyes when angry, but only for a short amount of time. This strengthens their powers and abilities, allowing them to be able to defend themselves against vampires.
  • Strong Fangs, Teeth & Claws: In wolf form, a werewolf's greatest weapons are its sharp teeth and sharp claws which can cut through steel. Werewolves have powerful teeth claws; able to cut solid walls and are nearly as strong as steel and regrow in minutes. Their fangs can tear off and eat human flesh and can rip out a human heart right out of their chest cavity. The werewolf's claws and teeth are extremely sharp and tough, enabling them to rend through a variety of substances including fabric, wood, cinder block, and even some metals. Werewolves can also use their claws to crawl along walls at great speed in pursuit of prey.
  • Lie Detection: Werewolves are able to sense if a human or even if a vampire is lying or speaking the truth.
  • Empathy: Being that werewolves' senses are so strong, they developed the ability to sense other's emotions through touch. With time this power grows stronger, this is used to sense a person's true intentions and if they are lying or not. At first this ability can be very annoying and hard to control, sensing everyone's emotions without meaning to. This ability can also be developed enough to absorb pain from someone.
  • Telepathy: Alpha's possess a more advanced form of this power which is known as telepathy the ability to read minds. They also manifest this through touch, they not only sense the emotions they can also hear their thoughts. Alphas also have limited telepathy and mental control over the betas that they create.
  • Longevity/Delayed Aging: When a werewolf is born or when a human is bitten at a young age, they age slower than humans. However, either way, once a werewolf reaches maturity, their aging stops and they enter a state of virtual immortality in which they are exempt from physical old age and have an infinite lifespan.
  • Pain Transference: Werewolves can absorb and alleviate pain from other people/creatures and can "heal" in some cases. Alphas can heal the extremely ill with their pain transference ability.
  • Memory Transference: Werewolves can transfer (give or take) memories by inserting claws into nape of an individual's neck. This ability can also allow direct "mind to mind' communication.
  • Immunity to Silver: Although a rare ability, some Werewolves are immune to magic bonded to silver. Weapons made of silver might wound them, but the wound heals at super-normal rates than regular wounds.
  • Alpha Voice: The voice of an alpha werewolf has the ability to force the transformation of other werewolves against their will.

Weaknesses and Vulnerabilities[]

  • blue Wolfsbane: It has been shown that the effects of Wolfsbane can suppress a werewolf's heighten senses, but it also varies depending on the type, amount and delivery method. It can cause hallucinations, weaken, render unconscious or kill werewolves. When ingested, wolfsbane causes a werewolf to become severely weak and feverish. Also, if a werewolf's skin is exposed to wolfsbane, it will burn them.
  • Mountain Ash: When used properly, Mountain Ash can form an impenetrable barrier to keep supernatural creatures in or out. It can also modify their behavior - keeping them from "causing trouble".
  • Lunar Eclipse Cycle: Werewolves are powerless during a total lunar eclipse. All werewolves are forced to shift during the cycle of the full moon, to some this is a gift, others a curse.
  • yellow Aconite: Wolfsbane (a highly toxic member of the genus aconitum, also known as aconite or monkshood) was thought to have anti-evil properties against Werewolves, and shapeshifters for centuries, and is used in the same manner as garlic. A concoction derived from the roots of the plant was often used to wash bite wounds from wild or venomous animals, and so perhaps this is where wolfsbane derived its supposed ability to cure people of lycanthropy or other supernatural afflictions.
  • Broken Neck: By breaking a werewolf's neck, it results in them being unconscious.
  • Magic: Witches are able to curse and inflict supernaturals aneurysms that cause the blood vessels of werewolves to explode.
  • Heart Extraction: Ripping a werewolf's heart out will result in instant death. If the heart of a werewolf is removed, it will cause instant death.
  • Blood Loss: If a werewolf is severely wounded and bleeds out before they can heal, they can die. As when Angel threw a stake into one's jugular, the werewolf bled out and died before it could fully heal, and when Petrova impaled the werewolf Paige through the chest.
  • Decapitation: The act of dismembering or removing the head of a werewolf will result in death.
  • Tranquilizers: It's been shown that even in wolf form, a werewolf can be affected by tranquilizers and rendered unconscious.
  • Reverse Transformation: A werewolf will revert to its human form every day when the sun rises in the day light. They will also revert back to human form when the moon is blocked by clouds.

Trivia[]
