Your life now belongs to me now, Dhampir!
Phantom Ship Shakoro to Rayne-Van Helsing

A Shakoro is a demonic entity from Japanese folklore. It takes up the appearance of young girls from varying ethnicities to lure in victims so it can suck their life force out, usually from their mouths. Most bizarrely, they also enjoy tickling their victims to death, presumably as a form of cruel humiliation or as a secondary feeding method.

Despite their rarity, Shakoros are among the most dangerous of creatures that Rayne has ever encountered, and she's become hellbent on eradicating them all, mostly due to her humiliating encounter with the Phantom Ship Shakoro, but also because of the threat they pose to humanity.

Rayne and her team encounter a Shakoro in "The Phantom Ship," where it is seen wandering the titular vessel before abducting Rayne and draining her life force before tickling her almost to death before she is saved by Hulk, Oracle, and Mia, who attack the Shakoro until it runs away, vowing to finish off Rayne at a later time.

A Shakoro usually looks like a small, seemingly harmless young girl, though this is a ruse to draw in their prey before turning into its much more terrifying true form, in which its eyes turn a solid, milky white, its mouth widens greatly, and its voice becomes distorted. They can also sprout sharp claw-like nails.

Known Shakoro[]

  • Phantom Ship Shakoro (deceased, killed and torn apart by Hulk)
  • Ghost Town Shakoro (deceased, weakened by Hulk and Mia, killed by Rayne)

Powers[]

  • Supernatural Strength: Shakoros have amazing physical strength, even by the standards of demonic beings, capable of knocking humans around and even restraining a dhamphir such as Rayne, making Shakoros very powerful. They can also drag fully grown humans along the ground with little effort.
  • Life Force Absorption: A Shakoro can suck the life energy out of a human through the mouth, as they require life energy to live. The process of doing so is usually instantaneous, depending on the strength and willpower of their victim.

Trivia[]

  • A Shakoro's hobby/tradition of tickling people to death is like that of a Leshy, a forest-dwelling spirit from Slavic mythology that whenever it catches a human wandering about in its forest territory, it will take them away to their secluded cave home and tickle them until they die, no matter what the victim does or says.
