Giganotosaurus (name meaning "Giant Southern Lizard"), or Giga for short, is a genus of carcharodontosaurid dinosaur that originated during the Middle Cretaceous period in what is now South America. A close, however, larger relative of Allosaurus, Giganotosaurus was one of the largest known terrestrial carnivores, second after Tyrannosaurus rex.
Thought to have been extinct for 95 million years, there are still some that remain alive on Primeval Island.
