The Giant Weta are several species of weta in the genus Deinacrida of the family Anostostomatidae. Giant wētā are endemic to New Zealand and are examples of island gigantism. There are eleven species of giant weta, most of which are larger than other wētā, despite the latter also being large by insect standards.
Though they are found today in New Zealand the ones on Primeval Island are much bigger than the ones in New Zealand. The ones on Primeval Island are the size of a dog. In fact, they live in the deep crevices of the island with other giant insects like Arthropleura, Giant Cockroach, Giant Beetle, and the Ottoia.
