| — Death, speaking to Sidney | ||
Death (also called The Grim Reaper, The Pale Horseman, The Eater of Souls, and The Angel of Death) is the eldest and most powerful member of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, who embodies death, ending, passing, and demise among humans, and a supernaturally ancient and supremely powerful primordial entity of immense power. Having existed since the beginning of time alongside his older brother and sister God and Amara, his twin sister Jennavieve, his younger siblings Magnus and Oberon and his sibling-in-laws Goblivious, Aurora and Titania, Death is so old, he cannot remember when he came into being, and says it is possible that he is as old, or even older, than God.
He is essentially the embodiment of the end of all things and is the entity that all living things are fated to meet one day, when he comes to ferry them from the mortal world into the next realm. It is thought that those who see him will soon perish, and as such he is considered a bad omen. The Grim Reaper is most analogous to Charon, the man believed to ferry the dead across the River Styx in Greek mythology. As one of the Horseman, he is affiliated with his brothers War, Famine, and Pestilence.
During the events of the Apocalypse, Death was bound to Lucifer and awaited the team to find them and he willingly give them his ring in order stop Lucifer. After the fallen archangel was defeated, Sidney personally gave Death his ring back. Death also gave the team a small portion of aid to defeat the Turok-Hans and lock them back into Purgatory.
As one of the Primordial Beings, Death is among the most powerful entities the Team has ever encounters. Due to the times and technology, Death drives in a pale grey 1959 Cadillac Series 62.
Biography[]
Early History[]
Origins[]
| “ | Sidney: Well, I must ask. How old are you exactly?
Death: As old as God. Maybe older. Neither of us can remember anymore. Life, death, chicken, egg. Regardless, at the end, I'll reap Him to. |

| — Death to Sidney in Todesengel | ||
Death came into existence after God and Amara did, the same time as Eve, and before Magnus and Oberon. Death and the Primordial Beings viewed each other as siblings. Soon, Aurora came around and Death was cordial and civil towards her. He also said he was amused and shocked by God and Aurora's romance and supported it. When God and Aurora married, Death willingly welcomed her into the family. Death later made the always and forever vow with his family. When Titania came around, Death was just as amused and supportive of her relationship with Oberon as he was with God and Aurora's and happily welcomed her into the family. Since the beginning of time, Death existed alongside his siblings and sisters-in-law.
Oracle's Birth[]
Death witnessed and was astonished by Oracle's birth, saying the child was astonishing. He found great potential in and has good relationship with Oracle, saying he was perfect in angels standards. Death also taught Azrael the ways of death and had friendly relationship with her as well.
Creation[]
Upon the creation of the Natural Order, Death was not only aware of the war between God and Amara. One time, Death, along with Magnus, saw and caught Amara destroying one of God's worlds. Disturbed, Death decides to exploit loophole in order to tell Oracle of this. Death unwillingly helped Amara destroy Eve creations and witnessed the primordial war,not interfering when Oberon said God's orders.
Death created the Veil and Reapers around this time. He would craft his scythe on his own from the Adamas of Creation, creating the second most powerful weapon in creation.
The Defiance of the Seraphim[]
Death also saw the massacre of the Seraphim and stated he was not happy about how they defied and tried to overthrow God, having seen great potential in them and admitted even he didn't predict Barachiel would be corrupted.
Heaven and future Angels[]
Death also witnessed the creation of the Archangels, and other angels. Oracle mentioned that it was Death who created the giant meteorite that wiped out the dinosaurs to tell Oracle everything has end. Death also mentioned that he was there when God created the first beasts, the Turok-Hans, and even, as he said, "Personally found them entertaining." He also said that both God and Oracle were worried what they could do and God then locked them in Purgatory, as Death suggested, meaning that he was acquainted with God.
Lucifer's Rebellion[]
When Lucifer fell, Death witnessed it and found the boy's temper tantrum completely unassuming. He also provided the Veil as a place to judge the forces of Lucifer after God personally defeated them. Additionally, Death created the Grimm Reapers, his very first children, as a means to reap the angels that were killed on both sides.
Oracle's GodRage[]
When Oracle fell into GodRage, Death, highly alerted and awed by such an unmeasurable power, agreed to help Aurora, Magnus, Oberon, Titania and Eve seal it away. Death bought his Scythe and used it to fight against Oracle using Lim 'E Light. Death would gradually outmatch Oracle alongside the other Primordial Beings and Michael, who he saw great potential in, but ultimately the success was because Oracle fell back.
After this, Oberon, Magnus, Aurora, Eve, Titania and Death sought to help Oracle control it. Death, taking pity on the death of his nephew's wife and daughter, personally took them to Heaven. He would also help Oracle master GodRage.
BloodRayne & Mia The Vampire Slayer The Series[]
Lucifer was intent on summoning Death, and because of this, numerous reapers gathered, ready to take his orders when he appeared. Lucifer claims, while he is releasing Death, that the requirements for the summoning are very demanding, and he also appears to have some degree of respect for the Horseman.
Season 5[]
Todesengel[]
Death drove a pale grey 1959 Cadillac Series 62 coupe with the license plate "BUH-BYE". He arrived in Chicago, Illinois, and walks down a street full of people. A distracted man rudely shoves past him, and Death turns to look at the man while brushing the side of his coat where the man touched him. He then continues walking as the man falls dead to the ground.
Death has arrived in Chicago to start a large storm chain that will trigger massive weather events and kill around three million people. Death, unlike his brothers, appears to have a habit of wandering off from his assigned tasks, much to the annoyance of Lucifer.
Sidney and Satan track him to a pizzeria where Sidney attempts to sneak up on him with Death's scythe. However, she instead remember Oracle saying that Death is not without nor beyond reason and calls out the Horseman's name. As Death turns around, he apports his Scythe next to him and, rather than acting hostile like his siblings, the Horseman thanks her for returning the Scythe before asking Sidney to join him at the table. Death reveals that he has been waiting for a while to talk with Sidney. Sidney inquires if Death intends to kill him, causing Death to remark "you have an inflated sense of your own importance" and goes on to compare Sidney to a "pure, snarky bacterium". Death claims he has forgotten how old he is, and it is possible that he is as old, or older, than God Himself. Death also claims that one day he will reap God, with Sidney remarking how in over her head she truly is.
Sidney asks what Death wants; Death answers simply "The leash around my neck off" before going on to explain that he never agreed to work for Lucifer. He goes on to explain that he has power beyond what Sidney can ever understand and Lucifer, whom he describes as "a bratty child", is using him as a simple weapon, creating massive disasters and raising the dead. This indicates that Death has some care for the natural order of things and Lucifer's genocide against Humanity is upsetting it. He goes on to explain the binding spell prevents him from going to Sidney so he had to wait for Sidney, and most likely the others, to catch up.
Sidney then asks what he wants her to do and Death says first to "take the bullets out of Lucifer's gun". He then willingly takes off his ring. He tells Sidney he is inclined to give her the ring if certain conditions are met. He tells Sidney not to worry about Chicago, as he likes the pizza, he will stop the storm. His conditions are that Sidney and the others must do everything in their power to assure that Lucifer is put back in his cell. While Oracle will be the one to puts Lucifer back in the cage, Sidney and the others must allow it and reveals that Oracle can escape Lucifer's Cage if he wants, as a way of reassuring her. Nevertheless, Death tells Sidney that she has no choice, as only Oracle can defeat Lucifer and when Sidney suggested Michael, Death admits the fight will not go to Michael's favor but refuses to give her any other clues and demands she gives her word. Sidney reluctantly agrees while Death warns her to hold true to her word by saying she can't cheat Death, he then gives Sidney the instructions on how to operate the rings that combine to form a key-like device.
Later, Sidney and Rayne discuss the plan and while Rayne is skeptical, Sidney says that Death probably has a larger view of things then they do and they should have more faith in Oracle.
Season 7[]
Death is summoned by the Team to kill Michael. At first, Death was annoyed by the Team binding him, but was shocked when they demand he kill a near god-like being. When Death curiously asked who, Michael and his angels arrives. Death senses the change in Michael and Michael reveals that Oracle is dead and he now has the power of the King of Heaven and the Words of God. Death at first is visibly angered and then laughs mockingly at Michael. He then reveals that Oracle was never dead and is alive all the time, much to the shock of Michael and relief of Ariel, Annael, Gabriel, Oracle's forces, and the Team.
Death then remnisces on the Seraphim, although he makes no mention of them, and tells Michael that he may be powerful, but he is still not as powerful as Oracle, revealing that Oracle has been playing him and his Angels to their defeat and had to held back so much that Death finds Michael's confidence that Oracle is dead as being amusing. Michael has the Angels attack Death but Death kills them with a simple hand gesture. He then engages Michael in a fight. Although impressed by Michael's power and skill, Death tells him he still is not God and defeats him ultimately, severely injuring him while only being moderately injured. When the Team demands he kills Michael, Death refuses and tells Michael and the Team he has glimpsed the future and knows he would be defeated by the alive Oracle.
After mockingly stepping on Michael's hand and knocking him out with a chop to the neck, Death breaks the binding spell, much to their shock. Death reveals that he is not just a Horsemen but, like God, is a Primordial Being, finally revealing his species to them. Death tells them there is so much they don't know and decides to implore them by revealing that even Lucifer can only bind him for a short time before he breaks free and since they are nowhere as powerful as Lucifer, their limit is only an hour before he breaks the binding spell. When Rayne quesions "How'd you do that?". Death is amused as he thought Oracle had told them about the Primordials but Rayne says Oracle only told them that the Primordials wield catalysmically powerful magic. Death says "Alright. Since I owe you brats a little for helping resealing Lucifer, I'll tell you a bit more. Listen. I am one who wields the magic that governs over life and death. Call it the magic of Life and Death. Space Magic is wielded by another, although you know it as the Speed Force. Yes, Rayne. The Speed Force is an entity. Energy Magic is wielded by several others like me. Since my magic and that of my siblings draw on the primordial cosmic forces that you can not even imagine. The Magic of the Primordials created almost everything and it can destroy everything. There is no limitations, altough as powerful as we are, even we do not hold utter omnipotence." After warning the Team that he would kill them if they try binding him again, Death teleports away.
Death teleports to the Veil and is contacted by God telepathically and opens a portal to God's location. He warmly and respectfully greets his older brother as well as younger brother and sister in law. He muses that Oracle has been playing dead the whole time and asks God if it is his plan. Death agrees to attend the battle between Michael and Oracle and God then calls upon Magnus, who also agrees to see it, as the Speed Force is currently stable and manipulation of space continnum to any level of danger is currently nonexistent. She then teleports into their location and after a warm greeting, all of the Primordial Beings went there.
Death watches as Oracle duels Michael in the Hall of Heaven and visibly looks impressed by his nephew's performance. He decides to spare Heaven from "Cosmic devastation" and easily activates the Rotunda of Creation, thus opening a portal to the Map of Creation. Death continues to watch amusingly as Oracle and Michael duels but seems to be surprised when Michael creates a new world and immediately motivates God. He was openly impressed by Oracle's magic skills and points out of Michael's new powers and his status as the Harbinger of the Second Apocalypse and Angelic Beast. He shows absolute confidence that Michael will die and refers to Oracle as Rocael in this fight. Death looks completely emotionless when Michael is seemingly killed whereas Oberon looks sick, Magnus looks down to the vast blackness of the new space, Titania visibly is saddened and God is sad. However, he is mortified when Michael returns and rebattles Oracle but is soon pleased when Oracle uses Primordial Magic extremely skillfully to defeat the Archangel. When the fight comes to Earth and kills several humans and destroys several buildings, Death sends them to their afterlives and also lifts several buildings back to their former place and repairs the damage, saying that he is saving Oracle some "trouble" without needing any reward. Death then watches with an impressed look as Oracle finally defeats Michael in Heaven and seems to not be dissapointed when Oracle spares Michael. Death then vanishes but not before God asks him to return the souls who were sent to the afterlife.
Personality[]
| “ | You have a rather reduced sense of your importance, my child. To a thing like me, a thing like you, well... Think how you would feel if a pure bacterium sat at your table and started behaving…rather gentle. All the Earth’s are just little planets in tiny solar systems in galaxy’s that are barely out of their diapers. I’m old, Sidney. Very old. However, I do invite you to contemplate how rather significant I find you. | „ |
| — Death to Sidney in Todesengel | ||
Death is in many ways opposite of his sister Eve, being stoic and nearly emotionless, only truly showing anger at beings that claim to be on the level of Death and his siblings (both the Primordial Beings and the other Horsemen), and when any being violates the natural order to a significant degree. Despite being callous at times, Death has a respect for the natural order of the universe. He explains to Sidney that there are times when it is difficult, but in the end, breaking the order in even the smallest way can cause untold chaos.
Due to his advanced age, Death is completely detached from the rest of the universe. He even compares Sidney to a bacterium. He cares little for major events of the world, like the Apocalypse, and despite his coerced involvement by Lucifer, he only pays the events vague interest, resulting in his tendency to wander off from his assigned targets. Unlike the angels or Lucifer, Death considers Rayne, Mia, Sidney, and Nigel and their involvement in the Apocalypse highly insignificant in the grand scheme of things. However, unlike his horsemen siblings, Death is shown to have a more civil and calm manner when dealing with the Team; Death tells Rayne that most people also talk to him with respect. Instead of attacking Sidney during their first encounter, he invites the brave young woman to join him at the table to discuss the Apocalypse and even goes so far as to share his pizza with her. Death also claims to be an acquaintance of God Himself, claiming that the two both share a similar advanced age to one another, although neither of them can remember which is older anymore or even if they are the same age.
While he does not hate Rayne, Mia, Sidney, or Nigel, Death feels that the group are an affront to the natural order, due to their constant resurrections. Even though he is capable of it, as a rule, Death himself does not normally resurrect people (most likely because it disrupts the natural order), though he can and might make exceptions or even "an exception once, not twice." He also seems to genuinely like, to a certain degree, Sidney, whom he says makes for good company, as the two share an almost father-daughter bond; Death even went as far as loaning Sidney his Ring so she can become Death for a day, as a way to teach Sidney quality of the Human Soul, along with the consequences of disrupting the natural order. While Sidney does lose their wager, Death is satisfied enough by the fact that she has learned her lesson to do as Sidney asks anyway, though he says it is also so they will keep digging into what is going on with the souls of Purgatory as he presumably doesn't like the idea of souls being used for power. Unlike the other Horsemen, Death has a level of respect for humans, specifically an immense respect for the human soul, viewing it as a beautiful thing, greater than many realize. Death tells Sidney that the soul is stronger than anyone knows, and that it can suffer much but it can't be broken or destroyed, not even by him.
Over time, Death expressed more respect for the Team, and has even indicated that he was honored to be reaping Sidney himself. However, he showed some anger at Rayne avoiding Death reaping her as he told Ryan that was part of the reason he wanted Sidney to kill him. Billiel states that Death actually found some amusement in the Team's repeated returns from dying, indicating that was part of the reason he allowed it.
Despite claiming to be totally indifferent to the Team and Earth, Death has helped on a number of occasions. He gave his ring to Sidney to stop Lucifer, agreed to get her block all the chaos and torture Lucifer's shadow-self did to her, and he even helped after Michael broke the binding spell the Team had cast on him, albeit claiming that he was only doing so because he found "that archangel boy arrogant." He also sharply criticizes Sidney for not following his earlier hint about souls and tells him bluntly that he'll help, but added, "Don't thank me. Clean up your mess." It is implied that he is not so much uncaring as he is above the petty struggles of the world, disliking being called on to fix things that he thinks should have been taken care of without bothering him. Death also has an appreciation for human food, especially junk food. His liking for Chicago's pizza was so strong he noted it as the reason he spared the city. In the next season, after Sidney lost Death's wager, Death showed up at Nigel's house, with bacon dogs, fries, and beer. Later, when Sidney summoned and bound him, he brought him pickle chips in an attempt to appease him, which proved fruitless. Nonetheless, after he was unbound, Death ate the food anyways and expressed his enjoyment of them on his way out.
Death seems to like cars as he uses them as his form of transportation. He also shows interest in modifying them.
Despite his coldness, Death is not without empathy and kindness. He has been seen to act differently when around his siblings (more the Primordial Beings than the Horsemen) and Oracle than anyone else, showing more emotion than he would around other beings. His morality is shown by the fact that while he is completely willing to kill, he finds the idea of a sibling killing the older one for power to be absolutely disgusting, evidenced when he was visibly disgusted and infuriated by Michael killing Oracle. He also has a limit on how many deaths he can tolerate, as while he is Death, even he can feel disgust for amoral and universal killing, shown when he showed disgust for Michael nonachalantly killing so many in his campaign. Death is also capable of sympathising with human souls who have suffered much, evidenced by the fact that should a demon dies, he gives them another chance in life and makes them unable to ever become a demon again. He personally sent Annabelle and Deloris to Heaven out of sympathy. He respects the wishes of his siblings and oldest nephew and would let them have their way even if it somewhat inconveniented him.
Death is also honest when he is impressed, evidenced repeatedly when he was impressed with Michael and Oracle's skill. He also can enjoy thrilling battles.
Physical Appearance[]
| “ | The gentlemen's game has no need for theatrics. | „ |
| — Death to Sidney, when manifesting in human form in Todesengel | ||
Death apparently has a true form, but the only known time he manifested in it was when he was risen by Lucifer for the Apocalypse. Virtually nothing of Death's true form was seen, but it seems to be at least around twice the size of a grown man and capable of low growling vocalisations, at least part of it seems black in colour, and it appears to be able to levitate. Death's true form is heard in Abandon All Hope..., when he ascends from his cell, with tremendous wings convulsing. Now, whatever it looks like, only God, the other Horsemen, Oracle, Jesus, and the archangels have seen it.
Whenever Death appears to converse or interact with humans on Earth (be it physically or on the astral plane), he manifests in the form of a very slender man in a dark business suit. Unlike his reapers, Death is dressed in a dark business suit, as opposed to mortician wear which the reapers (except Tessa) are clothed in. He also carries a steel tipped cane. He also appears to have overly large pupils that expand like the sockets of a skull depending upon his mood. His ring is pure silver and has a white stone set in it. Death, while not handsome, is shown to be considerably muscular and tall, more so than Michael, Eve, Oberon, Titania, Goblivious, and Amara, only being barely surpassed by God and Oracle.
Powers and Abilities[]
| “ | Hurricanes, floods, raising the dead. I'm more powerful than you can even begin to process...and I'm enslaved to a bratty child having a tantrum. | „ |
| — Death to Sidney in Todesengel | ||
As the Primordial Being that is the personification of the concept of death and being the eldest and most powerful of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, Death is an unbelievably powerful entity of god-like magical power, possessing an immense amount of incalculably enormous infinite omnipotent power and omniscient intelligence and knowledge and is undoubtedly among the most powerful beings in all of existence, with only the Primordial Beings and Oracle in GodRage rivaling Death in power. He is immortal and regarded as the strongest of the Four Horsemen, due to his advanced age and ultimate nature. He is the embodiment of death and, as such, angels and other supreme beings/spirits attributed with death itself often assist him. To explain his power level to Sidney, he said that a bacterium to a human, is basically the same as a human to Death and his age is such that he compared the Milky Way galaxy as being an infant compared to him. He is among the most powerful beings the Team has ever encountered and faced so far. He can kill anything in the entire Multiverse (except for Amara, Oracle in GodRage, Aurora, Goblivious, Titania and God). Below is listed all the powers that Death has demonstrated on the show.
- Death Empowerment: As the literal bringer of death itself, Death gains power from every being when they die, similar but opposite to Eve gaining power from every new life. Death gains an infinitesimal amount of power more than Eve does from the same being.
- Immortality: Naturally, being one of the primordial beings and an immortal being, Death is exempt from and not affected by all forms of pain, fatigue, disease, or death. Death cannot die or be killed and is above and exempt from old age and disease, and as the Primordial Being of Death, he cannot be killed as long as the possibility for death exists, and also he doesn't age or have to eat, sleep or breathe. In the event his body is destroyed, he can repair it as long as death exists in the universe. He claims to be the only thing to last forever. However, God once threatened to kill him when he believed that Death was not interested in helping him defeat Amara.
- Invulnerability: As both a Horseman and a fundamental driving force, Death is extraordinarily resistant to injury and is also exempt from physical harm and pain and cannot be physically destroyed in any manner, only his fellow Primordial Beings and Primordial Weapons can harm and kill him. Death was also mostly unhurt by Michael's attacks as the Angel Beast and emerged only with moderate injuries while Michael was left severely injured.
- Mandatory Existence: Death's existence is necessary and provides balance to reality. As God put it, "Life needs Death", and "Death needs Life". If Death were to be killed, reality itself would end. However, it was said that if both Eve and Death were to die, a new balance would be established.
- Nigh-Omnipotence: Being the eldest and most powerful of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse and as the primordial entity of death itself, Death himself can do just about anything he desires, possessing a great deal of incalculably near infinite and unlimited power that is superior to that of Oracle, Titania, Oberon and Magnus and equal to that of Eve and Aurora and surpassed only by God, Amara and Oracle in GodRage, being able to flood the world and alter the cosmos with little to no effort. The only things he can't do is kill his elder siblings instantly nor can he restore power and life to beings easily. Death is so powerful that he is one of the few beings that can enter Lucifer's Cage without the need of the Rings of the Horsemen. Death is also powerful enough to remove and/or transfer the Mark of the Outsider. He even created an eclipse by realigning the Solar System. However, like with God Himself, the surface of Death's power has barely been scratched, as we have yet to see Death use the extent of his powers.
- Apporting: Death was able to summon his scythe to him.
- Chronokinesis: Death was able to travel to the day where Sidney was freed and Oracle fight with the Shadow takes place by passing through a black time portal.
- Entity Creation: Death has the ability to create beings, but only did so to create the Grimm Reapers, Reapers, and the Veil. But that isn’t all he’s able to create or limited too.
- Flight: Death is independent of gravity. In addition, the Grim Reaper has hidden wings which he uses to fly around places.
- Invisibility: Like his brothers, Death can only be seen when he wants to be seen and he can also disappear at his own will.
- Magic: As a Primordial Being, Death possesses near omnipotent magical powers and absolute magical knowledge.
- Magic of Life and Death: Death is the creator and sole user of this magic. It allows Death dominion over the aspects of life and death themselves. This grants him the ability to decide the afterlife of dead humans and kill almost any being. Death could even use this magic to absorb the life force of a supernatural being, killing them, although not a being as powerful as Seraphim. Death is also extremely skilled in using this magic in offensive ways, capable of defeating Michael while he was the Angel Beast and helping Aurora, Oberon, Titania, Magnus and Eve overwhelm Oracle in GodRage. He is capable of projecting black waves of Magical Energy with this Magic, which is strong enough to effortlessly kill Demons and harm Oracle in GodRage. He could also craft black barriers that is sturdy enough to block attacks from Oracle in GodRage.
- Reality Warping: Death, as a Primordial Being, could warp reality to a massive degree. He could even cause an Eclipse effortlessly. He was also able to effortlessly twist the surroundings of the place he fought Michael to stab him and also easily counter his attempts to warp reality by slamming his hand.
- Resurrection: As he is literally the bringer of death, Death can resurrect all forms of life back to any state he so desires and can also bring any being he chooses back to life, as he retrieved Sidney's soul from Lucifer's Cage, without being hindered by the supernatural barriers strong enough to keep Lucifer locked inside. He can even bring multiple people back to life just with his passing. However, as it bends/violates the Natural Order, he almost never does. Death can even repair himself if he is destroyed, given enough time.
- Soul Placing: As the one who possesses absolute authority over dead souls, Death is able to send souls to their resting place.
- Soul Ripper: He can rip someone's soul out with a touch or his scythe when someone’s soul is condemned to Hell.
- Superhuman Speed: Death is fast enough to outpace Michae, as the Angel beast, and easily dodge most of the buildings and attacks hurled at him by Amara and Oracle in GodRage.
- Superhuman Strength: Death's strength, as a Primordial Being, is incalculably immense; he can easily undertake any physical weight. Death can easily lift a grown man high off the ground with one hand. He was also easily able to block a blow from the Lance of Michael, wielded by the empowered Michael with the Word of God and as the King of heaven, with his scythe and was able to pressure the Angel Beast with his strength and ultimately overpower and defeat him. He is strong enough to block blows from Oracle in GodRage using Rocael GunBow Blade and even managed to send him flying with a punch. Death is also strong enough to stagger Amara and Oracle in GodRage and could easily destroy large buildings with a single slash of his scythe and even could destroy a large skyscraper with a punch.
- Telekinesis: He can move objects or people with his mind. He once did this by bringing a chest set out so he and Oracle could play. His telekenetic power is strong enough to easily hurl Michael as the Angel Beast with considerable force.
- Telepathy: Death was capable of telepathically communicating with his brother God even though he was in the Veil while God is on Earth.
- Memory Manipulation: Death was able to suppress Sidney's horrific memories of being in Hell, by placing the memories behind a "wall" he created in the back of her unconscious mind. It is notable, however, that this was not permanent and would eventually fell. Michael was able to break it down, which led to Sidney regaining all of her memories of her time in Lucifer's Cage. However, Oracle healed her.
- Teleportation: Death can teleport himself wherever and anywhere in the universe instantly with only God able to stop him from being somewhere. He also can even go to the Underworld or to the gates of Heaven. He can even teleport into and leave Lucifer's Cage without the need of the rings.
- Terrakinesis: Death can rumble entire rooms to any magnitude he so desires; he has done this when he was released from his prison, and when he was bound. He was able to also generate a massive earthquake that easily lifted Michael off his feet.
- Thermokinesis: Death can thermokinetically increase or decrease temperatures to any intensity he so desires. He caused his scythe to burn red-hot in order to make Dean drop it, simply by thinking about it.
- Touch Necrokinesis: He can instantly kill almost anything as he is the Primordial Being and Horsemen of Death, causing instant death in anyone or anything. He once caused a man to collapse after simply brushing shoulders with him. After being bumped into by a man walking in the opposite direction to him, Death brushed his coat with his hand where the man had walked into him, killing him instantly. He was also capable of killing an entire group of Angels by simply waving his hand and could even kill Michael as the Angel Beast if he wants. The only known things he cannot affect with this power are God, Amara, Eve, Oberon, Oracle, Titania, Goblivious, Magnus, and Aurora.
- Weather Manipulation: Death is able to create cataclysmic events so harsh that he can wipe the Earth clean of any and all life like he did with the Great Flood of Genesis 6. He was going to wipe out an entire state with massive weather anomalies when Sidney found him, on Lucifer's orders, but later decided not to do it. Death is responsible for the Great Flood of Genesis 6. He was also going to wipe out Chicago with a massive storm when Rayne found him.
- Nigh-Omniscience: Because of the grim reapers advanced age and having existed forever alongside God since the beginning of time, Death possesses a tremendous amount of extensive absolute knowledge and awareness of creation that exceeds even Oracle's and is only rivaled by the other Primordial Beings. There's very little he's unaware of, however only God Himself is more intelligent than the grim reaper, as Death's intelligence is only rivaled and surpassed by God. Additionally, Death is not completely all-knowing, as he has made mistakes and forgotten things. For one thing, he doesn't remember if he is as old as, or older than, God. Also, when Rayne and Mia wanted him to kill Michael, he didn't know what they wanted before they told him nor did he also know the exact reason the Team summoned/bound him. However, he clearly possesses some level of omniscience as he knew Rayne wanted to talk to him without being informed by Tessa or anyone else. He also claimed that if Rayne tried to bind him again, he'd kill them before they began the spell.
- Sensing Ability: He can sense the presence of any living or undead creature around him.
- Supernatural Perception: Death can tell what something truly is, regardless of how it appears, or if it is invisible, and can clearly see and hear every creature in existence. However, both God and Oracle are capable of hiding from Death, as Death said he didn't know where God is when asked by Sidney and admits Oracle's tricks were powerful enough to block even his sight.
Skills and Talents[]
- Grandmaster Skilled Scythe Fighter: Despite his overall old appearance, Death is an extremely skilled fighter with his scythe. A highly well-balanced character, Death is considerably proficient in both close range and long range fighting (though he is arguably better in long range). His most basic attack consists of a spinning scythe strike followed by a forward dash. In combat, his main weapon is his scythe, which he can attack in various ways. He uses the scyther's quirks to attack from long range with great efficiency. He also makes frequent use of his teleportation abilities to a great extent, rapidly teleporting around to quickly confuse his enemies and easily avoid almost any attack by teleporting before it could hit him, theoretically canceling them. Death would also use his immense superhuman physical powers to easily survive most damage an enemy could deliver without fail and hurt them greatly with his attacks. He also makes use of powerful charged versions of his scythe's attacks that could lift any opponent with ease. Death can easily keep up with Oracle in combat and defeat Michael as the Angel Beast with his skill and is able to help Oberon, Titania, Magnus, Eve, and Aurora overwhelm Oracle in GodRage.
- Master Driving: Death is a very capable driver and is able to easily drive his car at fast speeds without losing control and perform complex maneuvers skillfully.
- Master Thinker: Death has proven to be a very accomplished, ingenious and prolific car modificator, with his car containing several modifications currently yet discovered.
- Master Chess Player: Death is also highly accomplished in chess, stalemating Oracle in a chess contest.
- Talent Embodiment: The user is or can become the embodiment of talent for they possess every talent there is. They are the peak of what is humanly possible in every field, talent or aptitude-wise. Some users can directly link to the concept of talent, further enhancing their skills to even greater levels. With Death being the best and one of the most powerful Primordials he takes this to a whole new level. Due to his extremely long life he’s obtained every talent that there can be due to the simple fact that the possibility of ever being stripped of his powers could arrive due to some unforeseen circumstance. He wished to be prepared for every single scenario possible and wished to have the skills necessary to be able to overcome such an issue. So to circumvent such a problem he’s made sure to have every single skill possible within his scenario even to the most primitive and basic skill. On some occasions even being powered down and thanking himself a hundred times over for having such a skill and being over prepared when the time had finally came.
Creations[]
Despite being the literal "Bringer of Death", Death himself has created a few beings and places in God's multiverse. These include:
- Grimm Reapers: When the first angels were killed during the Rebellion, Death created the Grimm Reapers to take the killed angels to their final resting place.
- The Veil: A place for human souls to go and wait for their Reapers after they die.
- Reapers: As the Earths became populated with more humans, Death created millions of other Reapers that are not as powerful as the Grimm Reapers.
Weaknesses[]
Despite his incalculably massive power and even rivaling God's power, even Death itself/himself has/possesses few minor limits and weaknesses.
Harming and Trapping[]
- Binding: Due to his Horsemen status, there are some binding spells which can force Death to fulfill and comply with the caster's demands, and/or force him to go to where the caster wants when the caster wants, however he can resist and break it ultimately, as long as it is not done by a Primordial Being, due to his also being a Primordial. After raising him, Lucifer was able to bind Death to him and control his actions to a moderate degree, to the extent that Death needed Sidney's help to free himself, although he later admitted he would break free ultimately after a year without needing Sidney's help. Rayne and Mia were also able to temporarily bind Death in an attempt to stop Michael, although Death broke the spell in an hour. Death later threatens that if the team ever tries to bind him again "you'll die before you start." Possibly implying that Death either knew what they were doing and allowed it, or would be watching much more carefully in the future. God's method was perhaps the most effective, as for unknown reasons, God kept him in the Veil after the war with Oracle in GodRage for years without him breaking free until Lucifer summoned him.
- God: While God might not be able to directly kill him, God, due to being an older and more powerful primordial being, is capable of binding, trapping, overpowering and perhaps even kill Death, as evidenced when he threatened him.
- Amara: Somewhat fearful of his oldest and more powerful sister, Death's refused to break the Mark of the Outsider and going out of his way to explain why to Mia instead of his usual apathetic demeanor to prior threats suggests that Amara may have been a threat to even him. It's also implied she can kill Death, as Death was unwilling to cross her when she insisted that Death should lie to God.
- Michael (As the Angel Beast): Michael was able to pose a challenge to Death and harm him while he was the Angel Beast.
- Oracle: While Death is older and ultimately stronger than Oracle, Oracle is however powerful enough to combat against him and it has been seen that even Death is reluctant to fight Oracle and admitted he would prefer a civil ending rather than a fight, openly admitting fighting Oracle would be extremely difficult for even him.
- Eve: As the embodiment of life and being slightly older than Death, Eve can overpower and perhaps kill Death.
- Magnus: Despite being older and more powerful, Death cannot instantly kill and defeat his younger sister and Magnus is able to fight Death for a great deal of time and can perhaps even destroy his physical form.
- Oberon: Like Magnus, Death superiority in power does not mean he can easily defeat Oberon and would be injured before he ultimately overpowers the timekeeper.
Destroying[]
- Death's Scythe: It is rumored that Death's scythe is capable of killing Death. It is unlikely that it can actually kill him, as a horseman can't be killed unless his attribute ceases to exist. However, he could have meant that the scythe is able to get rid of the conscience form of Death.
- Lim 'E Light: The sword is powerful enough to greatly injure and even kill Death, as well as wipe out his essence from all reality.
- Seraphim Blades: The Blades are shown to intimidate Death when Azrael pulled them out and threatened to fight him. However, Oracle says while it can't kill Death, it's one of the few weapons powerful enough to inflict moderate harm on him.
Relationships[]
Humans[]
Unlike his brothers, Death's view and opinion towards humans appears to be overall neutral; Death described humans as being bacteria and protozoa compared to him and mentioned that he finds it annoying when Sidney goes to him about her problems, but he holds no real love or hate towards them. Death does apparently appreciate humans' junk food though. However, Death commented that Sidney makes for rather good company.
Souls[]
Death has shown respect towards the soul for its immense power and value and how even he is unable to actually break a soul.
Angels[]
Angels, even though they are celestial beings, have been described as "little" in comparison to Death. Death did display scorn at angels like Michael and even Lucifer for their militant, immature and imprudent actions; calling Michael a "stupid little son and soldier" for killing Oracle and leaving the door to Purgatory vulnerable to anyone who can open it, and calling Lucifer "a bratty child having a tantrum" in regards to his quest against Heaven and humankind. However, Death is not entirely unacknowledging of angels, as he was willing to admit Michael had gained tremendous power as the Angel Beast.
Oracle[]
However, of all the angels ever created, Death actually finds Oracle's company the most likable, similar to how he views Sidney. He is openly fond of and respectful in Oracle's company, due to having known Oracle ever since he was born. Death also acknowledges Oracle's power and bravery for being among the very few and one of the very few Angels that could pose a significiant threat to him, showing visible concern when Oracle politely threatened him. He has also said that Oracle has more than billions of lives and was confident that he would win against Michael, showing he holds Oracle's skills and powers at very high regard. He was visibly impressed by Oracle's skills and powers when he fought Michael and showed no acknowledgment of Michael but only acknowledged Oracle's power. Death was also shocked at the idea of Oracle being dead, evidently being disappointed and angered. Death then broke the news of Oracle being alive to Michael and was visibly pleased upon checking his list and knowing Oracle survived. He showed respect of Oracle's wishes by not killing Michael after beating him but leaving the task and Michael's fate to Oracle.
Michael[]
Death stated he found Michael to be "adequately talented and able" during one of his visits to Heaven. However, he never knew what Michael has that made Oracle accept him as his protege until he himself trained the boy. Death finally realized that Michael is enthusiastic to learn but unlike Barachiel, he is much more humble and polite as well as sure of himself and intrigued by those qualities, while he at first refused, Death was enthralled by those qualities and accepted. Death later said he trained Michael because he wanted to at least create an angel who could come close to being as great as Oracle is. He admits to being impressed by the boy's capabilities and while very strict, was not above complimenting him. However, Death became disgusted when Michael said he killed Oracle and was shown to be disappointed in Michael, having viewed him as someone of great potential. Death ultimately saw Michael overall as a remarkable angel but still prefers Oracle over him.
Turok-Hans[]
Death showed a level of regard for the Turok-Hans which he didn't display for most other creatures; acknowledging them as "clever, poisonous things", and admitting that he "personally found them entertaining" during their free reign. However, this does not prevent Death from helping the Team in stopping them and he himself considered them the most dangerous beasts.
God[]
As both of them have been around since the beginning of time and are brothers, Death said he was mutually acquainted and close with God. Unlike most beings, Death respects and talks kindly with God, and even inspired Him when God showed concern for Oracle. God, however, is willing to use force against Death when needed, as he threatened to kill him when he did not know Death was willing to help against their sister Amara.
