A Chimera is a specimen, a living being, with more than one type of distinct DNA strand in their genetic code. The realization of chimerism can occur in living beings by organ transplantation.

In Season 5, the Dread Doctors perform scientific experimentations, procedures on eleven unwitting innocents, recreating them into creatures of the supernatural realized, made from science. All recipients exhibit features from more than one supernatural. Fittingly they are dubbed "Chimeras" due to exhibiting incongruous body parts.
The Doctors' Chimeras possess the physiology and nature of a said supernatural creature, but they are not truely supernatural, they are not affected by every day supernatural rules. For instance, they are able to touch, handle and crossmountain ash barriers.
The Dread Doctors chose particular young people for their experiment to create a potential Chimera. Each victim had a medical procedure prior to being altered by the Doctors. They'd received allogeniac tissue transplants, from an outside donor of the same species, i.e. skin grafts or organ transplants. Each of the Chimeras were allgenetically chimeras to begin with.
When the Chimeras first manifest their paranormal nature, they initially bleed out black blood. If they were to eventually bleed mercury, the Doctors declare them a failure of the resulting creature they are looking for.
In Status Asthmaticus, the Dread Doctors' latest experiment, "La Bete" (The Beast) is declared a success.
The Dread Doctors' Chimeras[]
Theo is the first sucessful Chimera of the Dread Doctors experiments. They came close in realizing him. He subsequently became partners with them. He came to be of service of the Dread Doctors during Season 5 in being their spy in the pack of Scott McCall. Afterwards Theo formed a Pack with four of the Doctors' 'failed' Chimeras, Hayden, Corey, Tracy and Josh.
Theo is a Chimera with the genetic makeup of both a werewolf and a werecoyote. He can exhibit and realize the physiological rules of said shapeshifters, such as stealing Alpha status. Theo is able to shapeshift to both a full wolf and a full coyote form. Theo has killed people, but displays the gold canine eyes of an innocent.
