“ | Angels. Look guys, I've been alive for 500 years, and even I don't know much about them. But they exist. However, they're not the hallmark-card version that everybody thinks. They can be many things. Most people tend to think of them as messengers and guardians of the Almighty. Others tend to see them as warriors of Heaven. But they can be both, and more than that as well. They are as glorious and loving as they are wrathful and terrifying. Pray that you do not cross them. There's a reason why creatures of evil and darkness fear them so greatly. | „ |
— Rayne, about angels in Knockin' on Heaven's Door |
Angels (from the Greek ἄγγελος - aggelos) are a race of pure, extremely powerful, winged, luminous, immortal, spiritual-like celestial beings, usually humanoid in form, who are the children of God from the realm of Heaven created by God or from human souls who are accepted into Heaven to serve as His guardians of His creations, attendants and messengers, but also as soldiers and warriors in His eternal war against Lucifer and his demons, the denizens of Hell.
Angels were created by God Himself and are benevolent celestial beings who act as intermediaries between Heaven and Earth, guardian spirits, and/or a guiding influence. The Angelic host believes in strict discipline and order and wages a constant battle for the sake of all creation against the demonic hordes of Hell who seek to turn existence into pure chaos and enslave humanity for their own ends. They live with God in Heaven and often act as messengers to mankind, bringing wisdom, prophecies, and warnings to a select few. Though mostly benevolent, they are soldiers of God's will and vengeance, seeking out and punishing both sinners and creatures of evil and darkness who would harm, corrupt, and prey upon humanity, such as vampires, vengeful ghosts, monsters, demons, and even fallen angels alike.
Angels are described as being divine beings of nature, especially because they serve the Supreme Being of life, peace, love, power, strength, and light. Angels have existed since the beginning of life and time themselves, long before The Original Pack, The Original Vampire, and the Turok-Hans. The Angels that are most important are members of the Celestial Council. There are several different kinds of Angels, which include: the Seraphim, Archangels, Cherubim, Powers, Principalities, Malakhim, Dominions, Virtues, Thrones, and Ophanim.
They are native to Heaven and are imbued with both holy white light as well as considerable power. Their true form is nothing less than that of holy righteous beings of pure light and sound which are beautiful as well as hazardous, overwhelming, and terrifying all at the same time; all having two large feathered wings on their backs/shoulders with halos of light around them and heights as tall as skyscrapers, as they are born when all of the High Heavens are in perfect harmony.
Angels are among the most powerful entities in the series, generally outclassing all demons, monsters, and other supernatural creatures with the exception of The Horsemen and the Primordial Beings. Angels are capable of reproducing with humans while in a vessel, creating a Nephilim. Angels are also among the most recurring supernatural beings in the series. While the angels are loyal to their father, they do possess free will and are capable of rebelling if they choose to no longer follow God's teachings (as demonstrated with Lucifer).
History[]
Creation[]
In the beginning, the Primordial Beings (God, Aurora, Amara, Eve, Death, Magnus, and Oberon) existed alongside each other. God then created His very first creation and the very first angel, a being more similar to Him: the Original Seraphim Angel Oracle, then after He created Heaven, He eventually later created the 14 other Seraphim, the first order of angels, who helped him defeat The Darkness in a terrible war. Once The Darkness was locked away, at first, God and his Seraphim all lived together in harmony, happiness, and peace, but eventually the other Seraphs started to have doubts about their fathers actions and tried to overthrow Him, but Oracle stopped and killed all but one of them, Eartheia, who was the one that helped him defeat the other 13 seraphs. However, she was killed helping Oracle. After all the Seraphim, Oracle from that moment forward became the last of his kind.
After the defeat of the other Seraphs, God had Oracle train the other future angels to be messengers, attendants, guardians, and warriors. So God then creates the seven Archangels (Michael, Lucifer, Ariel, Uriel, Sariel, Raphael, and Gabriel), the second generation of primordial celestial beings. Soon afterward, God then makes Cherubim, Powers, Principalities, Malakhim, Dominions, Virtues, Thrones and Ophanim.
Oracle first teaches the Archangels how to fight and use their powers while also at the same time raise them. And as the Archangels got older, they helped Oracle train the Cherubim, then the Cherubim helped them train the Powers and Principalities and so on and so forth. They grew up together in Heaven. Like human children, they played with each other and depended on their parents. Oracle is the oldest one and is admired by many of his siblings.
However, Angels are also autonomous beings and do not quite live in strict harmony with each other. Throughout the ages, they have had rivalries and disputes with each other.
Earth and its Inhabitants[]
After a while, God creates the Earth (what Lucifer calls His last great "handiwork"). God then creates the first beasts, the Turok-Hans. He let them roam Earth, eating and devouring everything in their path. The Horseman Death, personally found them entertaining, but God and Oracle were concerned for the sake of the "petri dish", so God had the angels fight them in a horrifying war and the celestial warriors hunted the Turok-Hans almost to extinction. God then created Purgatory and locked the few that remained away in it.
The Rebellion[]
Soon after, the first amphibians come out of the ocean onto beaches. Long after that, God created humans. God assigned Gadreel, His most trusted angel, to protect his cherished creations in the "garden". He then asked all the angels to bow down to human beings as his greatest creations and present more compassion towards them than to Him. However, Lucifer became envious, as he was God's favorite creation before humans, and saw that humankind was an evil, weak, imperfect, and destructive creation. Lucifer attempted to convince God of the flawed nature of mankind, but God didn't listen. Faced with this situation, he became increasingly more prideful. Lucifer went to Michael and asked him to stand with him, but Michael refused and Oracle, the other archangels, and two-thirds of Heaven's angels stood by God and fought in Heaven, whereas one-third of the Holy Host joined Lucifer.
Michael and Lucifer fought in a cataclysmic battle until eventually, Michael defeated and cast Lucifer, as well as his remaining angels, out of Heaven and down to the Earth. Out of anger against God, Lucifer corrupted the human soul with sin. Lucifer then slipped past Gadreel into the garden and poisoned the Earth with his own evil, forcing God to lock Gadreel away as he failed to keep Lucifer out of the garden. God then had Michael personally cast Lucifer into Hell, specifically Lucifer's Cage. Lucifer was locked away with 600 powerful seals, 66 of which needs to break for his release. A prophecy states that one day Lucifer will break free, initiating the Apocalypse and that Michael will kill him and bring paradise to Earth. And with all the events from killing the Seraphim to killing other angels during the rebellion, as well as watching humankind and the Earth itself to both be cursed with evil, corruption, and sin, Oracle departed from Heaven and vanished into self-exile, retreating to Earth alone.
Since then, the angels were mostly benevolent and were taught to love and guide humanity. In the years since their creation, humanity has made many of the angels disillusioned and angry with humanity for their neediness, corruption of the planet, cruelty to one another, and all-consuming desire for more.
Characteristics and Overview[]
“ | They're a very powerful species; fierce, vigilant, and twice as strong as demons. They smite first, and then they ask questions later. And their true forms, well...lets just say they can be...overwhelming to just about anyone who looks upon it, and so can their real voices. However, I've heard that certain people -- special people -- can perceive their true visage. Angel's are immune to salt rounds and devils traps...stakes, iron, silver, salt, a knife, traps and talismans from every faith on the globe -- pretty much anything you can name that can catch and kill anything even I've ever heard of. I've even read in a book that says an Angel can snatch a soul from the Pit, literately airlift your ass out of the hot box. And believe me, not even a high-level demon can swing that. Not even Lilith. | „ |
— Rayne, about Angels |
As warriors of God and agents of Fate, Angels are extremely powerful beings in the supernatural world. They are holy superhuman spiritual beings that live in Heaven and are superior to mortals in both power and intelligence. They're generally benevolent, and, like Demons, they can use humans as hosts through possession, however, they cannot do this with without the vessel's consent, or "permission." Angels have a true, spiritual visage - described as a "multidimensional wavelength of celestial intent" - which is so intense to humans that, unless said humans are part of a vessel bloodline or are able to sustain Angels' true visages, seeing an angel's true form can burn their eyeballs away. Little else is known about Angels' true forms, except that they possess two large, feathered wings extending from their backs. Their true spiritual forms or visages prove overwhelming to most mortals; however, some 'special' people can view their true visages without suffering lasting effects; demons also can't look at them in their true form without damaging their hosts. Their forms resemble normal humans, with the only difference being a pair of great wings on their backs. However, the wings can be retracted in order to occult it. Generally, when appearing on Earth, the wings are opened but shortly after they retract.
When Angels fully manifest in their true visages on the physical plane, their true forms are visualized as intense, blinding, burning white light and/or as bright fluid streams of blue-white energy; and their true voices are heard as high-pitched, intense sonic screams, which are powerful enough to shatter glass. Angels can fall from Heaven if their wings are damaged. This immediately expulse them from Heaven, and gives them physical bodies. However, after some time, the Angel "dies" and the soul extinguishes, and they cease to exist. This can be avoided if the wings are "healed" in time. Their expulsion from Heaven can be also caused by indiscretions, like killing a mortal creature. It is known that when Angels fall and/or are left badly weakened, this can cause damage to their true forms; after being banished and weakened in the Fall, some of the affected Angels are left with their wings partially broken and deteriorated away, and others apparently lost their wings completely. Due to the intensity of their true visage, as well as to be able to properly interact with the physical world and with humans, when Angels come to Earth, they usually possess human vessels as physical bodies for themselves. When an Angel possessing a vessel shows its cosmic power or displays aggression, its vessel's eyes and body will emit pure bluish-white light, and shadows of the Angel's wings will appear. Humans also see angels as their vessels even in Heaven, which, according to Zachariah, is because humans are still too "limited" to see angels in their true forms in Heaven.
In addition to being physically seen, even though some of them have no physical presence or being of their own, an Angel's presence has been seen or manifested on earth as a brilliant white light (or a bluish luminous smoke if they have no wings) Respectively, Angels in their true form do have large bird-like wings on their backs, which can range in appearance from being 2-8 meters wide. When Angels die after being stabbed by an angelic blade, shadows of their wings are burned into the surface on which they are lying. It's possible that the larger wings an Angel possess represents their rank or power since.
They serve generally as messengers and advisers, as they don't have permission of directly interfering in the events to protect the free will. Ariel describes some Angels as being emotionless, not permitted to have feelings or free will. She even goes on to compare angels to marble statues, in the sense that they're both cold, loyal and have no choice. Despite being an Angel herself, even though she is an Archangel, this description that Ariel gave to Rayne has been proven wrong on many occasions. Oracle has shown loyalty to Rayne, Mia, Sidney, and Nigel and a greatly huge amount of regret, sadness, remorse, and guilt when he kills other Angels. Gabriel has shown both anger and love towards his brothers, Michael and Lucifer. Zachariah shows clear signs of anger, pettiness and arrogance. And Oracle is especially saddened and sheds tears over having killed Uriel. To be more accurate, Angels are very much capable of both human emotions and flaws of character, rather the majority of them choose not to show or admit to having emotions as emotions are considered doorways to doubt as well as a weakness, and they are not permitted to display emotions for the same reasons.
Angels consider themselves family to one another, referring to each other as brothers and sisters. The angels also refer to God as their father. Even though God is their 'father', all Angels except Oracle, the Archangels, Metatron, Gadreel, and several others, have never actually seen God or His true face or even heard His voice. According to Ariel, only seven Angels have actually met God and seen His true face. These seven are thought to be the Archangels, including herself.
Due to their age and power, many Angels look down upon humans and see them as inferior. Lucifer rebelled because God loved humans, a flawed and arrogant species, more than Angels. Some Angels continued to hold resentment to this many thousands of years later, as evidenced by Uriel and his followers. Despite this, Angels guard the souls in heaven. Feelings of resentment aren't universal, as some Angels such as Samandriel, Joshua, Michael and Inias are much more civil with humans, while others such as Ariel, Gabriel, and even Oracle consider them better than Angels because, despite their inherent flaws, a lot of them strive to do good.
While outside of a vessel, Angels either appear to humans as a brilliant white light, or a bluish luminous smoke (depending if they have their wings or not). While within a vessel, Angels only have their powers thanks to their grace. Without it, they are just like humans and become subject to the process of life and death. Ariel stated that removing it voluntarily is very painful, comparable to a human removing a kidney with a butter knife.
Unlike humans, because some of them lack physical bodies, Angels do not reproduce while in their true forms, as reproduction is a purely physical process. Ariel tells Rayne that one of the things that humans have that angels don't is sex. Rayne even describes angels as "Ken dolls" meaning that the only way for them to have sex is to possess a human. Only while within a human vessel can Angels mate with humans, resulting in Nephilim. It has not been seen if they can mate with other Angels in human vessels or what the resulting offspring would be. However, manifested angels are exempt as God provided their bodies with all that humans possessed.
After a sufficient amount of torture, Angels can be broken and their "operating system" be accessed. Angels have secret knowledge pre-programmed into their being that they aren't even aware of. The screams an angels makes when tortured sends out ripples that cause strange occurrences, such a glass bottle shattering or a bush lighting on fire.
When Angels fall from Heaven, they appear like meteors to the human eye. Ariel explained that when she told her story to Rayne, Mia, Sidney, Lilly, and Nigel.
Angelic Rules[]
Although angels, like all of creation, possess free will, even they have a set of rules that even the most temperamental of angels must always follow and obey. Punishment for breaking these rules can and will result in demotion, banishment, imprisonment, torment, and even death as well as ex-communication. However, it is possible to exploit a loophole to avoid punishment but to truly break the rules of Heaven is an option available only to Michael, Oracle, Lucifer and Eartheia due to their highest rank of authority. However, even they rarely ever do it and only if or when it is absolutely necessary. These rules are:
- Killing human beings: A rule made by Michael, Angels are not allowed to take a mortal life, especially if the mortal in under the said angels or other angels charge.
- Word of honor: When Angels make promises, swear oaths, and/or make vows, they are tied to it and its conditions, meaning they will not be allowed to break it. Therefore, they must always keep true to their words of honor. However, angels are allowed to break their promise if they feel that it is a wrong promise to keep.
- Conceiving offspring: Although they can use their blood to create shadowhunters, Angels are not allowed to conceive offspring of their own, such as Nephilim, with anything or anyone, for any reason, under any circumstance. Even after Oracle ascension, this rule still remains. However, Oracle somewhat altered it, stating that if even one Nephilim is somehow conceived, he will allow them to exist under two strict circumstances:
- The said angel must truly love their mate and not use them as a breeding tool. Otherwise, the angel and the Nephilim will be killed.
- The said Nephilim must be claimed by Heaven and be taught how to use their powers for good. If they can not, Oracle will either strip them of their powers or have them killed. Said Nephilim claimed by Heaven are still allowed to visit their parents but only when they are not in a mission and if Oracle gives his permission. They also have the option to have their powers stripped for good of their own accord if they wish to live normal lives.
- Forceful possession: No matter how hard they try, Angels cannot possess a human being against their will; thus they must always bear the vessel's permission.
- Consorting with enemies of Heaven: Unless absolutely necessary, Angels must not consort with enemies of Heaven; these include (but are not limited too) demons as well as monsters, wicked witches, fallen entities (angels, gods, fairies, etc.), malevolent spirits, or Nephilim. The only ones known to have bent this rule are Oracle and Michael, as Oracle was able to befriend many enemies of Heaven and Michael recruited several witches and deities against Lucifer. Even after ascending as King of Heaven, Oracle still only calls upon their aid whenever it is truly a situation where they have absolutely no choice.
- Tampering with Free Will: Angels are not allowed to fool around with free will (for example, they cannot manipulate humans into giving angels permission to possess them. The human mortal must choose of their own free will). Oracle later reveals that this rule is punishable by stripping an angel of their powers. However, for him, Eartheia, and the archangels, they can tamper with free will as their authority is high enough. However, they rarely ever do it.
- Feelings for their wards: Whilst they can be concerned for, care about, and even befriend them, when being Guardians for an individual or a group of people, Angels are not allowed to fall in love with or even harvest feelings for their wards. However, they can fall in love with those who are not in their charge, but only so long as the said angel makes sure that they will check in on their wards.
- Favoring their wards: Additionally, when Guardians, Angels must hold all their wards equally; they cannot favor one of their wards over another, for it can cloud their judgment and cause them to be less concerned with their other responsibilities. However, Michael has noted that out of the humans he has been responsible for, Valerie was his favorite and when asked on the rules of Heaven, he simply said that he "makes the rules" as King of Heaven and even when he wasn't the King, he is still not subject to it and even casually noted how he favored some of his wards even then.
- Passing on burdens: When acting as guardians, Angels are not allowed to burden any of their wards with even one of their own personal problems. As of thus far, only Oracle and Michael have proven able to get away with his. Michael freely revealed his emotional pain to Valerie. While Oracle did the same to the Team, he also attempted to not break this rule, as he rarely shares his pain with anyone and does not enjoy talking about his past, preferring to keep it to himself. Oracle had altered this rule so the angel could bond over with their wards as a way to genuinely befriend them but said angel is forbidden to resort to violence or else Oracle would briefly ban the angel until they learned their lesson. However, Lucifer did break this rule apparently, as he lashed out to Linda on how he felt and suffered no consequences.
- Revealing Themselves: Angel cannot reveal or expose themselves unless it is absolutely necessary, such as if a person is exposed to the supernatural but does not believe it or if the person is in danger. Additionally, when they act as guardians, Angels cannot tell their wards they share the same person. In other words, Angels cannot tell any of their wards who their other wards are. This rule is not applicable to Michael, as Michael admits to Valerie that he has had many humans under his protection and even listed the name of some. Although Oracle never told any of his wards who his other ones are, he felt it was necessary to bring them together during the Apocalypse. Even after his ascension, Oracle still keeps this rule.
- Killing other angels: A new rule placed in by Oracle, Angels are no longer allowed to kill their own, unless said angels are either evil or if the angel that killed the other had reasonable and just reasons. However, the only exception is when death is a necessary punishment for breaking any of these rules. There are only a few angels not subject to this rule; Michael, Ariel, Gabriel, Eartheia, Camael, Annael, Lucia, Lucifer and Oracle himself, but they almost never kill fellow angels. The only way to get away unpunished is if said angel is simply too evil and dangerous and they must prioritize capturing over killing.
Luma Megare[]
Among angels, or at least angels of the middle and higher class (specifically, the warrior class of angels), disputes of honor are settled by a Luma Megare, which is Enochian for "Angelic Duel". Such a duel is conducted in an open-air arena that has many obstacles and structures, and it may be witnessed by spectators. The victor may spare the defeated, but it is generally looked upon as an act of weakness rather than generosity and at times even both. The contestants may have one or more "seconds", i.e. people who stand around in that person's corner of the field and may attend to their champion before and after the duel, or bear them away in case they die fighting. The opening pose of an the Angelic Duel is standing with back turned to the opponent with the angels praying. During this phase, both contestants then turn to face each other and perform fighting stances. The next minute, the fight begins. It is considered dishonorable for a defeated opponent who has been spared by the victor to attack from behind after an Angelic Duel is over. The Angelic Duel continues until one angel can't continue or until one of the angels concede.
Rules[]
Even during Luma Megare, angels must follow rules within the duel.
- Once an angel is challanged, the challenge cannot be withdrawn.
- The contesting angels must fight until only one remains standing.
- While able to choose whether to fight in Heaven or somewhere on Earth, angels cannot fight on holy ground.
- On Earth, their fights must be hidden from humans.
- The duelling angels are not allowed to have outside help or interference.
Celestial Hierarchy/Types of Angels[]
All species of angels are classified in a hierarchy in Heaven. Each angel, even the highest-ranking ones, is assigned a specific and eternal task both in Heaven and on Earth. The armies of Heaven are divided into several classes for different purposes. Warrior angels who served as foot soldiers were grouped in garrisons charged with specific tasks. Gadreel's garrison, for example, was assigned to watch and protect the Earth. Each garrison is led by a Captain, who are the Powers and they also have Lieutenants who overview the actions of other Angels, who were the Principalities. Garrison Captains and Lieutenants then report to the Colonels, the Cherubim, such as Zachariah, who in turn answer to the Generals, the Archangels themselves, who in turn answer to both God and Oracle. In God's absence, the archangels are the highest order of authority in Heaven. There are three Heavenly spheres, but there are ten different types of angels in all of the Holy Hosts of Heaven.
Organizations[]
- Main article: The Celestial Council
The Celestial Council is group of powerful and wise angels who represent light and positivity. They are essentially God's senior staff and closest advisers, varying from high ranking angels to low ranking angels. They were angels hand picked by God Himself for this position. The Celestial Council is an angelic council comprised of some of the eldest, wisest, and most powerful members of the Host of Heaven, who are elected to lead and guide the Angels as well as advise Him on situations, as they were the ones who advised Him to cast out Lucifer himself from Heaven. All members of the Celestial Council are those who have the rank of leader of their specific angel type or those who have special occupations in Heaven. The Majority Council of the Order can overrule the decision that the other members of the Council made, regarding matters of the Host of Heaven; such as banishing a member of the Angelic Order.
The members of the angelic council include:
Original Members[]
- Oracle - As the Original Seraphim Angel and Trainer of the Holy Host (semi-formerly, now being the Ruler of Heaven)
- Michael - As the eldest Archangel and Commander of the Holy Host (formerly, having been demoted)
- Metatron - As the Scribe of God
- Zachariah - As the Chief Cherubim (formerly, having been killed)
- Camael - As the Lead Power) (formerly, having been demoted)
- Haniel - As the Highest Principality)
- Amenadiel - As the Master Malakhim) (formerly, now being a guardian angel)
- Samyaza - As the Head Dominion)
- Ephiram - As Top Virtue)
- Ambriel - As Head Throne)
- Raziel - As Head of the Ophanim)
Current (New) Members[]
- Main article: Order of Angiris
Higher Angels (The First Sphere)[]
- Main article: Higher Angels
The first order of angels, the Higher Angels consist of the oldest, wisest, and most powerful angels in all of creation. They are considered to be God's strongest warriors, as well as the leaders and commanders of the Host of Heaven. The Higher Angels have a human form and do not need to possess a human body in order to exist on Earth. They utilize their wings for flight, communication, and a myriad of defense function. The Higher Angels wield the greatest of physical power, next to the Primordial Beings. While they are extremely difficult, if not, next to impossible to kill, their contact with Empyrean steel proves fatal.
- Main article: Seraphim
Also known as "The Original Angels", the Seraphim are the very first and most powerful angels ever created, endowed with incalcuable primdorial-like power that surpasses those of all others, including the Archangels, as well as being the most powerful beings ever created. As such, these near-supremely powerful celestial beings who can easily overpower and kill just about anything else, except the Primordial Beings. Next to them, Seraphim are the most powerful celestial beings in existence. Even if they Fall or become cut off from Heaven, they don't lose any of their powers. There were 15 Seraphim siblings comprising the original order of angels: Oracle, the first born of the majestic Seraphim, twin siblings Barachiel and Matorius, twin siblings Azrael and Nazareth, twin brother Amos and Sorath, Laylah, the middle child of the majestic Seraphim, twin sisters Noma and Anita, twin siblings Thiel and Barbatos, twin brothers Shachath and Evtoth, and Eartheia, the last born of the majestic Seraphim. However, there are now only two left in all existence: Oracle and Eartheia. This is due to the fact that the others defied God and Oracle was ordered to kill them. Even though most of them returned eons later, including Eartheia, they were killed once again, but Eartheia survived and now remains alongside Oracle. Though they are not quite equal in terms of power and age, they are nonetheless the strongest and most powerful celestial creatures in existence.
Before creation, together with Primordial Beings, the Seraphim, including Oracle and Eartheia, took part in a terrible war with The Darkness. This war resulted in The Darkness being locked away.

Middle Angels (Second Sphere)[]
- Main article: Middle Angels
The second order of angels in the hierarchy, the Middle Angels, is made up of angels that are considered the enforcers in God's infinite army of angels. Thus, they are the foot soldiers, guardians, and warriors of the Host of Heaven. Like the Higher Angels, the Middle Angels have a human form and do not need to possess a human body to exist on Earth. They too utilize their wings for flight, communication, and a myriad of defensive functions. Middle Angels wield great physical power but are not as strong as Higher Angels. While they are immensely difficult to kill, their contact with Empyrean steel proves fatal, and unlike their superiors, they can die, or at least, get injured as a result of excessive angel force.

- Main article: Principalities
- Main article: Malakhim
- Main article: Dominions
Lower Angels (Third Sphere)[]
The third and final order of angels is comprise of three types of lower angels, who are not warriors of God, but are merely the attendants, messengers, and the healers. They are not to hard to kill but they essentially never put themselves in harms way.
- Main article: Virtues
The Putti, otherwise known as Cupids, are another lower-ranking order of angel, ordered as third class angels. In their occupation ("Angels of Love"), they are responsible for manipulating affection in certain, special bloodlines.
- Main article: Thrones
- Main article: Ophanim
Guardian Angels[]
- Main article: Guardian Angels
Although not a specific angelic rank or even an angel species in general, Guardian Angels are various kinds of angels from any sphere or rank who have been assigned to protect or guide a person or a group of people. Guardian Angels act as anything from babysitters to bodyguards. They watch over wards, or charges, and intervene when necessary to help them along their path and keep them safe; they can also be called by their wards. They constantly hear the lives of their wards in their heads and if one of them calls their Guardian Angel's name, they can usually show up at a moment's notice. The only Guardian Angel to have appeared so far is Oracle, the Original Seraphim Angel.
Lesser Angel Ranks[]
- Main article: Fallen Angels
- Main article: Nephilim
Dyads are half-human and half-higher angel hybrids that exists outside the Celestial Hierarchy. This rare and mighty being is created when a Higher Angel has been previously cast down into the lower ranks and takes control of a human, possessing them like a lower angel but sharing control of the body with the original human soul. The Dyad has a human form, but because their Higher Angels that inhabit human bodies, it does not have wings. Whilst the angel and human generally live in symbiotic harmony, one side is always dominant. When the angel spirit takes over, the Dyad's human eyes can flash to black. Deriving a unique brand of power from the dual presence of its angel and human sides, the Dyad is extremely strong and difficult to kill, but is still no match for Higher Angels.
Powers and Abilities[]
As warriors of God and agents of Fate, Angels are extremely powerful beings in the supernatural world, possessing a wide range of abilities that vary from Angel to Angel, depending on the class of the Angel. Though they are just as beholden to God as humans, Angels are perfect holy supernatural beings of divine light that were created superior to human mortals in both power and intelligence. Angels also have special abilities and auras. The powers have made their blood irresistible to humans, demons, monsters, and other supernatural creatures. As such, they are immensely powerful and wise, making them one of the most powerful supernatural beings to exist in the entirety of all creation, right under the Primordial Beings themselves.
Lower-tier level Powers[]
Common powers granted to all Angels with varying levels of effectiveness.
- Immortality: As spiritual beings, either in spirit or corporeal form, Angels don't age and cannot get sick, die, or be killed by diseases or Earthly weapons and exist eternally. Angels with physical bodies do not grow old or die from the passing of time.
- Agelessness: They use their power to arrest the aging process of their vessels, making them exempt from old age and giving them the potential to live infinitely with no adverse effects.
- Invulnerability: Angels are essentially impossible to harm through conventional means. To date, the only things capable of killing angels are Angel Blades, Holy Fire, a stronger angel, Death, and God. Archangels have even fewer weaknesses, as Michael wasn't killed by the Holy Fire, and they can only be killed by Archangel Blades, not ordinary Angel Blades. It has been stated that Death's Scythe can kill angels.
- Regeneration: If an Angel or an angel's vessel is damaged, it will greatly increase the self-regenerative abilities of their hosts as well as their immune systems and tolerance for physical pain and will repair itself nearly instantly unless the wound was caused by angelic weaponry.
- Extreme Power: Next to the Primordial Beings, Angels are the most powerful created beings in all of creation, possessing extreme levels of power. They are powerful enough to bend reality to their will, create alternate dimensions, and are shown to be considerably more powerful than almost anything else in all of creation; such as demons, pagans, reapers, fairies, witches, ghosts, monsters, extraterrestrials, and humans. Additionally, the Angels can be matched, rivaled, and surpassed only by each other, as the older and/or higher ranking the angel is, the more powerful they are.
- Power Aura: Angels emit an intense and bright aura that is a product of their immense power. The more powerful the Angel, the more powerful the aura is. Among the most experienced of angels can use the aura's energy for attacks.
- Angelic Possession: Similar to demons, Angels require a vessel while on Earth, even though they can manifest themselves. However, they must have the vessel's permission before they can take control; basically, they need the vessels to say 'yes'. Gadreel states that even once they are possessed, the vessel can expel the angel at any time but this presumably does not apply for all angels. Angels can only continue to possess humans of a specific bloodline otherwise their vessels will be unable to contain the angel and explode. This goes even more so for archangels as any vessel they possess that is not their true vessel will begin to deteriorate.
- Astral Projection: Angels are able to manifest themselves in Earth as spirits, without needing a physical form. They can even interact with the physical world in this state. Although the can physically show their wings, Angels can project shadows of their wings onto surfaces at will. If one is killed by an Angel Blade, its wings are burned onto the surface on which they died.
- Chronokinesis: Angels can travel through time, in either direction, going back in time or reverse time, cause the resurrection of the dead, cause memory loss, and also cause physical restoration of the damaged. They can also take others with them, and just send others without going themselves. Angels also have the unique ability to manipulate the space-time continuum, and in the process, watch as the world around them freezes. However, even for the Powers, this is a non-easy to very difficult ability to master with or without Heaven's assistance. More powerful angels, such as the Higher Angels, are able to manipulate time easier, even when they are cut off from Heaven.
- Enhanced Chronokinesis: Angels, excluding higher angels, have the ability to bend time is easier if the angel is connected to Heaven.
- Claws: Corporeal angels can attack their opponents with claw-like fingernails.
- Demon Immunity: The vessels of angels and even angels themselves are immune to demonic possession and demonic diseases, such as vampirism and lycanthropy.
- Enhanced Condition: Angels are at the peak physical and mental condition of their species to a greater extent than any species of any creature can achieve without any supernatural methods and remain that way with little or no maintaining. They are therefore faster, stronger, more intelligent and overall superior to other species.
- Healing: Angels can cause the wounds, diseases, and toxins of another being to cure and heal instantaneously.
- Cosmic Senses: Angels possess heightened senses and they enhance their vessels' senses to cosmic levels. Angels have learned to control their senses of hearing, vision, taste, touch, and smell.
- Smell: Angels possess an acute sense of smell that is heightened to the pint where they can smell humans from a few yards away, recognize their scent, and identify people by smelling there body, bone or by their blood. Angels can also identify people by sniffing there genes and hormones in human beings as well.
- Sight: Because angels operate on a different plane of existence, they can see atoms and ions which is impossible for humans to see.
- Celestial Perspective: In Heaven, angels possess celestial awareness that allowed them to be aware and see each other regardless of darkness or their position. They lost this when they came to earth and were locked from heaven and now must rely on their heightened human senses.
- Hearing: Angels can hear a human's conversations miles away from them, and their somehow able to locate any human on the planet and find them, but they can't locate people if their if they are not wearing or protected by an Enochian charm or symbol.
- Holy White Light: A particularly lethal power, Angels can unleash a highly concentrated blast of pure light energy from their palms to incinerate or destroy targets. The level of its destruction can be controlled, ranging from obliterating an entire building to killing a room full of monsters, as exhibited by Oracle. Metatron, a regular angel, was seen being able to utilize this power. It is, therefore, possible that all regular angels are able to use this deadly ability.
- Invisibility: Angels can become invisible to humans. All angels are spiritual beings, making them naturally invisible to visual spectrum. However, Angels can allow themselves to be seen for the main reason to physically interact with the living.
- Molecular Manipulation: Angels can perceive, move, and change the molecular structure of matter. Angels are known to have turned people and even whole cities into salt.
- Protective Charm: An angel can protect an individual (commonly their vessels and their wards) from most forms of physical damage. This degree of protection is linked to an angel's power. Manny was able to prevent his ward John Constantine from burning his hand on a pot of boiling water as a sign of faith. Raphael was capable of making Satan immune to a Cherub's angelic killing touch.
- Pyrokinesis: Angels possess the ability to create, generate, manipulate, and extinguish fire. They can also use this as an energy attack. The higher, older, more powerful, and more experience the angel, the more sufficient they are at using this ability.
- Reality Warping: Angels are powerful enough to bend reality to their will. The more powerful the angel, the greater their capability. Even angels cut off from Heaven possess this power to some extent, according to Oracle. The most notable examples are Oracle, who lived on Earth literally as an oracle, and Gabriel, who lived on Earth as masquerading as a Trickster named Loki. Other angels, also possess this ability but on a smaller scale. Examples include breaking and repairing objects by pointing at them, removing a person's lungs with no incisions or assembling a board game by shaking the box. Archangels possess this power to the greatest extent, being able to conjure items and beings out of nothing. The most notable example is Gabriel, who lived on Earth by masquerading as a trickster named Loki. Even low-level angels cut off from Heaven have this ability. Oracle, the Original Angel, has this power to an even greater degree than the Archangels, as he was able to easily instantly bend the very nature of physical reality and is capable of creating and accomplishing nearly anything he wants, such as unreal dimensions, wormholes, and time loops, as well as powerful illusions that can fool even Archangels, reshaping objects into some thing else entirely, and even putting a person in a TV or an alternate universe.
- Resurrection: Angels can easily raise and bring the souls of the dead from the afterlife and back to life. However, they must know where all the pieces of the original body are, and they must have the soul of the subject. However, Oracle, Michael, Eartheia and Lucifer are exempt from this rule. Oracle also mentions that angels had to lay siege to Hell in order to retrieve Rayne and Mia.
- Sacred Blood: The blood of an angel is the ultimate weapon used to destroy all evil creatures of Creation. It is the only weapon that can completely destroy the Alpha Elders and prevent their self-resurrection. Additionally, when a creature like a vampire feeds on the blood of an angel, they are at first refreshed, then they eventually liquefy from the inside out as the blood literately melts them. The blood of higher angels takes quicker to effect.
- Shapeshifting: Angels are capable of altering their true angelic appearance, making themselves look like humans (hiding their large wings).
- Spiritual Manifestation: Even before Oracle left, the Higher Angels, and some of the Middle and Lower Angels, where both physical and spiritual beings. Being so, they were able to manifest themselves spiritually on Earth, so that only other angels could interact with them, but humans would not be able to see or touch them.
- Smiting: Perhaps an Angel's most versatile and terrifying weapon, smiting (sometimes known as the Killing Touch) allows the Angel to be able to kill/destroy any creatures and humans with a simple touch. They can also use it to kill demons, spirits, monsters, and humans. More powerful angels, like Raphael, are proficient enough to scare (and kill) a demon as powerful as Lilith. Smiting is often exhibited when angels place their hands or palms on their adversaries' face, forehead, or mouth.
- Sonic Cry: Angels can raise their voice to ear-shattering levels that allows them to shatter rocks, buildings, and even kill other creatures.
- Soul Removal: Angels can rip the souls out of living humans.
- Super Speed: Angels possess heightened reflexes and can move faster than the eye can follow. They can also travel on foot around the earth seven and a half times in one second. They can also out-move even the fastest of other supernatural creatures, including vampires, without effort.
- Super Agility: Angels can cling to sheer surfaces and move with flawless grace, balance, and dexterity.
- Super Stamina: Angels are exempt from fatigue, hunger, and dehydration. They endow their vessels with inexhaustible energy and relieve them of their need to eat, drink, sleep or breathe. They never tire, and they do not require food, water, oxygen, or sleep to sustain themselves.
- Super Strength: Angels possess other-worldly strength which enable them to overpower others with great ease. While once possessing a human vessel, Angels use their power and presence to dramatically increase the physical strength threshold of their hosts to rival or even surpass that of any human, ghost, monster, fairy, reaper, pagan, demon, and even their own kind. Angels have increase superhuman performances of physical strength; possessing incredible strength sufficient enough to lift objects hundreds of times their own weight, strike opponents with considerable force, and cause immense damage to humans. The physical strength of an angel is unknown, but their strength seems to be unlimited as it comes from their angelic power. Because of this, Angels are often described as the strongest entities in all creation, next to the Primordial Beings. They also have extreme control over their strength as they have been shown to punch through walls but also non-fatally punch humans. All angels are much superior to humans and animals in strength, however, their strength varies from angel to angel, depending on their position within the celestial hierarchy; lesser angels (Virtues, Malakhim, and Powers) are just stronger than humans, ghosts, monsters as well as evil spirit and fallen beast demons, able to press at least 2 tons (4,000 lbs), while Cherubs, mid-level angels, are considerably stronger, able to overpower stronger monsters, mid-level demons, and all lesser angels. Higher-level angels, like Archangels, among the strongest of all angels, are counted among the most physically powerful beings in existence, able to overpower spirits, all lesser and mid-level angels, and even top-level monsters. Finally, the Seraphim, the highest-ranking angels in all of Heaven, are even significantly far much stronger than anything else, except the Primordial Beings.
- Telekinesis: Angels have the ability to manipulate objects with the mind and can and are able to telekinetically move beings and objects with their mind and interact with physical objects without any physical contact. The most powerful of angels, the Seraphim and Archangels, are extremely powerful telekenetics and can easily throw around demons, pagans, monsters, and even lower angels.
- Telepathy: Angels can communicate nonverbally, using their mental senses, and psychically as well as hear the thoughts and experience the dreams and emotions of others. Higher Angels can also read the minds of other angels with ease. The highest angels, such as Seraphs and Archangels, can also read humans minds and speak into each others' minds.
- Dream Walking: Angels can appear in people's dreams, they usually use this to communicate, when they can't find the person they're looking for, or want to talk privately. Lucifer was able to talk to his future vessels in their dreams.
- Sedation: Angels are able to render humans unconscious with a touch.
- Teleportation: Angels can teleport between Heaven and Earth, appearing anywhere in a flash and disappearing in the same way instantaneously and are able to travel from one place to another, instantly, without occupying the space in between. They can also summon or send other beings.
- Voice Mimicry: Angels can perfectly mimic/imitate the voice of another.
- Wall-Crawling: Lesser Angels and some of the Lower Angels can climb walls and ceilings with their bare hands, similar to a spider. However, Middle Angels and Higher Angels have also been known to run, walk, and even stand upon walls and ceilings in a similar manner to that of a speedster, as shown when Oracle battled Uriel at one point on the side of a building, appearing as if they were walking on solid floors.
- Wings: Angels possess and are able to unfurl enormous feathery wings from their upper backs.
- Flight: Either in spirit or corporeal form, Angels can use their wings to fly like any other winged creature. All angels are able to fly at insanely fast speeds, faster than a vampire, witch, fairy, pagan, demon, and even a Kryptonian.
- Wing Blades: Their feathers, when swung fast enough, can severe flesh. Thus they can cut any other creature in half, human or otherwise.
- Wing Shields: Their wings are impenetrable, as no sword, arrow, or even bullets and missles can pierce them.
Middle-tier level Powers[]
Abilities more commonly used by higher classes of angels, such as the Higher Angels, but a few have been used by the Middle and even Lower angels.
- Advanced Chronokinesis: The Higher Angels can manipulate and travel through time and send people to the future or the past without requiring a connection to Heaven. Oracle and the Archangels are capable of simply and effortlessly controlling time, as well as sending people backwards and forward towards time without being physically there.
- Advanced Healing: While Malakhim and the Powers possess the ability to heal through their connection to Heavan, Virtues, Dominions, and the Higher Angels possess the power of their own - not needing aforementioned connection.
- Advanced Pyrokinesis: Powerful angels can generate, manipulate, and extinguish fire. Michael and Oracle were shown to be proficient enough to kill angels by setting them ablaze from within as well as burn entire buildings and even cities. Interestingly, this didn't simply destroy the vessel, it also killed the angel, suggesting they are capable of conjuring very powerful fire that burns at spiritual and physical level.
- Advanced Vessel Locking: Powerful angels can hold a demon in smoke form as if it was tangible and force the demon to return to its vessel.
- Biokinesis: Higher level angels, such as Cherubim, Archangels, and even Seraphim, even like Oracle, are able to manipulate the biology of other beings. The Cherub Zechariah, for example, was able to make Mia hemorrhage while torturing him into saying yes to Michael.
- Memory Manipulation: Powerful angels are able to erase, restore, alter, and fabricate memories in the minds of humans.
- Power Removal: Powerful angels such as Seraphim are capable of removing psychic powers from human beings. However, the process is very painful and can leave the person mentally-damaged.
- Soul Reading: Angels are able to read the souls of humans, however it is a painful experience for the human. They can also use the soul as a source of energy, but the pain is even greater for the human, and there is the risk of an explosion if the angel is not careful.
Higher and Top-tier level Powers[]
Extremely and absolutely powerful abilities, used only by Heaven's most powerful denizens, the Archangels seraphim and Oracle, but Metatron and a select few others share at least one of these powers.
- Nigh-Omniscience: The Archangels possess vast knowledge and awareness of many things. Oracle possesses nearly absolute wisdom cleverness and awareness of all earthly things and nigh-supreme knowledge of the entire universe and of all things that happen. Additionally, his knowledge exceeds that of the archangels and even Jesus Christ. He is even aware of anything that affects them on a universal scale, including threats, anything that would affect them in any way or even somebody talking about them as well as even people's thoughts.
- Nigh-Omnipotence: The Seraphim and Archangels have a vast supply of power that is second only to the Primordial Beings. They can change reality at whim, being able to do and create things out of thin air such as illusions, fantasy, portals, beings etc. Having great power and dexterity, they can easily overpower humans, fairies, angels, pagans, demons, and monsters. Oracle and the Seraphim however, possess the highest level of power among all angels and are nearly supremely powerful celestial beings of immeasurably incalculable amount of power and can do almost anything they wish with ease, enough to be able to toy with reality and overpower any being in creation. They are even able to challenge the Primordial Beings themselves.
- Advanced Implosive Smiting: A more powerful version than that of a lower angel's smiting. This could obliterate powerful beings such as archangels themselves. Lucifer caused a lesser angel to explode by snapping his fingers, and Oracle, being the Original Angel, also demonstrated the same ability. However, Oracle possesses the highest level, as with his power supressed, he still could kill younger archangels and he was able to smite Turok-Hans.
- Electrokinesis: Raphael could produce powerful arcs of electricity that appeared from his back. Oracle was also capable of generating and controlling powerful electricity effectively. The Original Angel can generate lightning of enough intensity to cause coastal blackouts as well as generate powerful electric currents.
- Elemental Control: Oracle and the Archangels are capable of manipulating the elements. They also have the ability to control light, as they are beings of supreme light. Lucifer, however, has the ability to control darkness, due to being the First of the Fallen.
- Shapeshifting: Lucifer was able to take multiple forms while not in a vessel, and while in vessel, Gabriel could also do this.
- Terrakinesis: Archangels are able to create severe quakes. Oracle is also capable of doing so.
- Thermokinesis: Lucifer demonstrated the ability to freeze a pane of glass with his breath. His presence can cause an entire town to drop in temperature. Michael could do the opposite and caused a door handle to heat up intensely. Oracle was shown to be able to heighten, alter, or even lower his own body temperature or that of other creatures, environments, objects, and of their surroundings. He is able to do the afromentioned feats Lucifer and Michael did.
- Weather Manipulation: The Archangels and Seraphim have complete control over weather, although the level varies in power. Raphael was able to generate storms that caused blackouts over the entire Eastern Seaboard, Lucifer unleashed incredibly fierce winds with his release, Michael can generate severe winds able to knock off trees. Oracle, the Original Angel, has shown complete control over weather, superior to all angels and even Jesus Christ, as he was able to easily control the weather and all forms of weather. Upon arriving on Earth, he caused sudden severe winds. Oracle can change the weather upon first emergence. His sheer presence also can drastically alter the Earth's weather and surroundings, and even when he is in his vessel, he is capable of controlling meteorological tempests, creating tremendous earthquakes, fire, lava, and tremor attacks, summoning massive tidal waves, and generating strong air-currents, huge tornadoes, and even mist.
- Energy Blasts: In FXR, Gabriel fired blasts of energy at Oracle and Michael four times. The attack barely fazed them and was effortlessly deflected. Oracle and Michael then effortlessly "beat him into sunday" with only 2 blasts. Oracle and Michael also duelled using energy blasts, with both proving able to knock each other off their feet and launch them through windows as well as defend against the projections due to their roughly even power. Lucifer later blasted blue energy that were able to similiarly knock Gabriel badly. Annael and Lucia once quarelled and duelled with bluish energy projections. Oracle and Michael, both at the height of their powers, used this power at a far higher scale in their climatic battle, destroying planets cleanly with ease.
Unique Powers[]
- Divine Mode: A skill able to be used by all angels, even Malakhim. It allows the angels to tap into their divine grace to the fullest to significiantly enhance their abilities. However, it comes at a cost of making said angel very ferocious and lose much of their reasoning. Also, the strain put can leave the Angel unable to fight afterwards for several days. Archangels and Seraphims are able to harness the power much more safely but if they have not mastered it, they will still lose as much as reasoning ability as lesser angels.
- Heavenly Arms: An even harder form of Divine Mode, it allows the angel to manifest spectral versions of their weapons by tapping into their connection to it using the strength of their will provided by Divine Mode. For any lower or middle angel or even archangels, as long as they have not mastered the skill, it takes a lot of burden that will quickly weaken them. Only Oracle and Michael has been seen capable of using the power without strain due to their greatest level of talent and skill. Annael, Gabriel and Ariel managed to develop the power but they have not even came close to mastering it and collapses after only 2 minutes while Oracle and Michael has no limits to how long they can sustain it. Eartheia is capable of manifesting it for over 30 minutes but after that even she would collapse. For lesser angels, over exhaustion means death, even for Cherubs, with Annael being close to death when she used it to help Ariel take down Evtoth, and Archangels and Seraphs would be electrocuted heavily and fall unconscious for hours.
- The Alteration of Divine Hand: A forbidden technique that applies the basis of destruction and creation as well as reality and unreality that only Oracle and Michael have mastered. It allows an angel to wish away any injury done to themselves by turning it into a dream and destroy, create, or even recreate something even if it was already destroyed utterly. Incompletely mastered use cannot destroy a realm or maintain the process of turning wounds into a dream for more than several minutes, as shown by Gabriel, but those with full mastery can destroy and recreate an entire realm at whim as long as they have contact with said realm's surface and is able to maintain use of the process of turning wounds into a dream for longer periods of time. It even allows for a user to overcome any Enochian Sigil, except ones placed by Michael or Oracle, even if they have not mastered it, but Oracle and Michael can break free of sigils placed even by themselves.
Skills and Talents[]
- Eidetic Memory: Angels do not forget and have perfect recall. They also have the names and faces of every prophet and slayer who has existed or will exist etched into their memories. This ability also makes them aware of reality-warping and timeline changes.
- Heavenly Host Training: Having been trained by Oracle himself, almost all angels in all of creation have all been taught how to be warriors, attendants, and messengers of God. Even the lowest angels are trained enough to outmatch most beings, with only experienced and more powerful other entities being able to defeat them.
- Omnilingualism: Angels can speak, read, write, understand, and interpret any, every, and all languages in all of creation. They can even speak to plants and animals.
Weaknesses[]
Despite their intimidating appearance, Angels are not all-powerful and can be defeated. However, they are difficult to kill. The methods that are used to hurt or kill demons and humans will not affect Angels at all. Uriel states that the only thing that can kill an Angel is another Angel, though this has been shown not to be the case as Rayne, Mia, and even Sidney have killed Angels before. Although there are not many ways known, there are methods to stop or kill an Angel. Even Archangels, who are extremely powerful and superior to almost all other Angels, possess a few weaknesses, though little which can kill them. However, while not truly unkillable, Oracle, the Seraphim, and Archangels possess nearly true immunity to many fatal angelic weaknesses, with some being entirely harmless to them.
Harming, Misleading and Trapping[]
- Holy Fire: When encased in a circle of flames created from Holy Oil, the Angel is trapped. The trapped Angel still can use their powers, possibly aiding them to escape. Touching the flames however will kill the vessel and the Angel. However, it cannot kill Michael and can only briefly banish him. Oracle can simply shrug off Holy Fire. Should the circle be disrupted by some sort of bridge, the Angel can cross it and escape unharmed.
- Lucifer's Cage: This cell can hold any angel, therefore including ophanim, thrones, virtues, dominions, angels, principalities, powers, cherubs, archangels, and even seraphs (except Oracle) without any internal means of escape. However, Oracle can enter and leave Lucifer's Cage with his power. Also, Oracle reveals that Lucifer, having gained Archangel Demon Mode and thus is almost as powerful as he is should he use that power, could have escaped the Cage but Lucifer simply chose not to, having decided to remain imprisoned out of guilt.
- Enochian Sigils: When Enochian sigils are placed on human rib cages, they prevent any angel/archangel (except Oracle and the seraphim) from detecting and finding them. They can also be used to prevent angels (except Oracle and the seraphim) from entering a building by painting them on the building's walls. In Torn and Frayed, the sigils on the walls dramatically weakened an Angels powers. They can also prevent an Angel from hearing a conversation of those in a warded room.
- Hexbag: Hex bags can used to prevent angels from detecting and finding someone (these cannot hide someone from archangels).
- Higher Demons/Large numbers of Demons: The highest Demons are able to fight, overpower, harm, banish, and even possess lower level angels (such as Ophanim, Thrones, Virtues and Malkhim), however they can't kill them. A significantly large number of demons (even without hosts) are able to overpower a group of Malakhim. However, this does not apply to Oracle and at least among Archangels, Michael, as both proved capable of slaughtering over thousands of Demons without getting any injury.
- Horn of Gabriel Sigil: This symbol is able to be sensed by any angel who is around to the caster and also acts to forcefully attract them to the location it was cast. However, Oracle and Michael can resist the pull with ease.
- Angel Trap: It's another way to trap angels besides Holy Fire.
- Angel Imprisoning Sigil: It could temporarily imprison them. When imprisoned, they can lost his powers temporarily. The sigil also block any sound from inside of the warded room to be heard by any angels in outside of the room. However, this does not affect Oracle and Michael and a user of the Alteration of Divine Hand can overcome the sigil.
- Grace Removal: An angel's grace can be removed by slitting their throat and drawing it into another being or a vial which renders them human and mortal. Oracle has said however, that when it comes to Archangels, they must willingly relinquish their Grace and Michael and himself cannot have their grace removed.
- Angel Depowering Spell: Capable to de-powering nearby angels if certain trail along with the sigils.
- Guilt: Angels are also under the same system of judgment as humans. Similar to the manner in which human get judged to determine if they are to go to Hell, if an angel feels a sufficient amount of guilt, it could cause an angel to self-judge themselves as sinners and self-punish themselves to fall and become mortal. Because of Amenadiel's own personal guilt and feelings of unworthiness, Amenadiel judged himself to guilty and caused himself to fall and lose his wings. However, if an angel can forgive themselves, their powers will be restored.
Banishing or Destroying[]
- Blood Seal: If a person places his or her hand upon this blood seal that is placed upon something then all angels in the immediate area will be banished away. An angel can activate this seal as well. If an angel activates the seal then the angel who activates the seal will not be banished along with the other angels in the area. The blood seal can also be place upon a person's body. If an angel activates the seal this way (carved into its vessel's chest), he or she will be banished along with the other angels.
- Exorcism Chant: There is an exorcism chant to expel angels from their human vessels and send them back to heaven. It seems that the chant is not well known as the only entity to use it was Alastair. The Whore of Babylon also knew an enochian chant which causes angels severe pain.
- Empyrean Steel: Empyrean steel can kill, or at the very least, fatally injure any angel of all classes.
- Angelic Blades: An angel can be killed by stabbing him or her with an angelic blade. It seems that the angel must be stabbed in a vital area of the human body, such as the head, heart, neck, or stomach. When an angel is stabbed by an angelic blade, a burst of bright, white or blue light (depending on how weak the angel is) is released and a shadow of the angel's wings are burned on the surface underneath the body of the angel's human vessel.
- Archangel Blade: Archangels seem to have their own angelic blades that are probably more powerful than normal angelic blades. It seems that an archangel blade is capable of killing both normal angels and archangels, as shown when Oracle killed Uriel with his own blade.
- Angel Blade Bullets: Bullets forged from melted-down angel blades were shown to be effective against angels. However, like an angel blade, the bullet must enter a fatal area, such as the brain.
- Angel Sword: A sword version of the angel blade used by higher angels, like the Watchers, Powers, Archangels, and Oracle. Like an angel blade, it kills angels.
- Seraphim Sword: The sword of a Seraphim can destroy any class of angels. However, Oracle's sword, Lim 'E Light, can eradicate the essence of an angel from existence entirely.
- Weapons of Heaven: Lot's Salt can irreparably dissolve an archangel's vessel, as it did to Raphael's. All of Heaven's weapons acting together can seriously wound, and likely kill, Raphael or Gabriel, but possibly not Michael or Lucifer.
- Hand of God: Because these items contain God's power, they can harm even an Archangel to a certain degree.
- Death's Scythe: This weapon can kill demons, reapers, angels, and presumably any other living thing. It's rumored it can harm, and kill, Death itself, but this is gigantically unlikely.
- Turok-Hans: Turok-Hans can easily overpower Malakhim and outmatch Powers and even Cherubim, but whether they could approach an Archangel remains a mystery. However, the Original Seraphim Oracle has proved to be able to overpower Turok-Hans with ease and even defeat the Queen herself and the other Seraphim are likely stronger than them to almost as much as Oracle. To Oracle, one of the reasons why God locked the Turok-Hans up in Purgatory was because they could possibly kill angels.
- Turok-Han Bite: In addition, the bite of a Turok-Han effects angels in a similar way werewolf bite effects a vampire. Whilst the bite is merely lethal but not fatal to Angels, some have been known to, in rare cases, die from the bite. However, Oracle, as the original angel and due to having been bitten by the most powerful Turok Han (the Queen), was able to survive and absorb the pain, showing that not only is he impossible to be killed with the venom, he is also capable of fighting through the effects with great focus and sheer indomitable willpower allowing him to quickly recover.
- Higher Angels: Higher Angels such as Powers, Cherubs, Archangels, Vitures, Dominions, and Seraphs can can kill lower level Angels.
- Archangels: Archangels can annihilate ophanim, thrones, virtues, dominions, angels, principalities, powers, and cherubs. However, they cannot defeat a Seraphim directly.
- Seraphim: As the highest and most powerful angels, Seraphs can easily kill any amount of angel and even archangel can't match seraph directly.
- Oracle: Being the Original Angel and as the trainer of the entire holy hosts, Oracle can simply overpower and kill any Angel weaker than a Seraphim with no effort. However, a Seraph, Archangel, or a number of lower angels can prove a challenge.
- Primordial Beings: The primordial beings can effortlessly destroy any amount of angels instantly. However, Seraphim and Archangels would pose a challenge to a single Primordial Being and Oracle is strong enough to fight God, Aurora, and Amara individually for extended period of time.
- Energy Focusing Sigil: This spell killed any angels directly in the path of the exploding angel, atomizing any angels nearby and killing anything else while blowing the whole area up. This sigil also exposes angels to earthly objects and weapons.

Known Angels[]
While there are thousands (if not millions and possibly even billions) of angels that reside with God in Paradise, there are only several dozen known angels in the series.
